Looking for a foundation that doesn't "creak"

Hello everybody,

I recently switched from a Queen-sized spring mattress with a 2" topper to a Cal King latex mattress on a platform bed.

I love the feel of the new mattress, but I really miss some of the height of the old bed, and being able to sit at bedside without feeling hunched over. So I want to add the height back to the mattress via some sort of foundation, somewhat economically at least...

One of our biggest complaints with the old bed was the pine foundation, it would creak and groan, especially when I toss and turn during the night ( I am 6' 5" and 250 lbs and my girlfriend is a very light sleeper).

So I am very hesitant to just go out and buy the first foundation that I can find. Looking online, there seem to be some hardwood foundations that can be shipped to my door and are affordable, ex:

I'm wondering about the wood quality though.

Local is another option, but I have the suspicion that the mattress salespeople will try to gouge me for buying a foundation without the mattress.

Another intriguing option would be to get a firm latex layer from FBM or another distributor, but I'm worried that the cost would be high, and the 6" wouldn't really make much difference in the height, but I doubt an 8" foundation will either.

Any other options that I should be looking at? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

ramblinwood.net--this company is supposed to have very sturdy, very high quality beds--and made in the USA, too.
