Lux-HQ and static electricity

Im using , from top to bottom: 4" Lux-HQ, 2" soft talalday blended latex(20-24), 3" med talalay blended(32-36). Im still in the acclamation stage, and the mattress, so far, is comfortable.

The problem is, when I removed the latex from the Lux, there was a tremendous amount of static electricity built up between the latex and foam '

I'd not heard of this in all the reading and research prior to putting this mattress together. Is this a common occurence, or it it just me?

I do have the mattress laying on the carpet. This Could be a factor. It being on the carpet is just temporary, as I intend to mount it on a frame(cal king(2 twin xls) once Im sure of the proper configuration.

If anyone has information on this topic I would appreciate, very much, if you could advise me on this topic.

Thanks.

L.

I'm not clear on why static electricity might be a problem...?

I can tell you that the HR (high resiliency foam) we used to use always had a certain amount of static electricity in it. I suppose part of it depends on how dry your room is, what kind of weather you have, what kind of carpet, etc... We live in CA so sometimes it's very dry, and we have synthetic cheap carpet in our apartment, so yeah, we have static electricity. But I didn't know it was a problem.

Hello Jim,

Ive read many of your posts. Thanks for all the information.

I dont know that static electricity is a problem in this instance. Thats what Im trying to find out. It was just kind of scary, all that crackling. I just wanted more information. I also want to report that I moved the bed again this morning, and there was no static electricity. Well, maybe just a little. But not like the first time I moved it. I suppose once I get my mattress properly encased and stationary, it will not be a problem at all.

Thanks.

L.

My latex toppers really have static electricity when I move them around, which I do lots of!!!  But I do keep a polyester blanket on top so that conducts the electricity.  It just shocks you, no big deal.

Hi Latkat,

Whenever changing my natural latex layers around, there's always lots of static and crackling, so I'm just assuming it's normal.

We have carpet and I'm usually in rubber soled slippers.smiley

Yeah, I doubt that static electricity is a big health problem. At certain times of the year, I get it really bad when I get out of my car. Sometimes it really hurts! But I would only consider it a problem with my mattress, if it happened while sleeping or every time I got in and out of it. I think it's okay if it's just when moving the layers around.
