"Mattress look" compared to a thin cotton or terry cloth zippered case?

We are seriously considering doing a DIY bed buying latex foam from foambymail.com. The 100% latex foam is cheaper but my drawback is not having a sturdy case to surround it all. My DH thinks he'll just roll out of bed off the side. Do you think this makes a difference, the sturdy cover vs. the cotton or terry cloth thin cover?

I have read that having a thin cover is actually better though being closer to the latex....but still concerned about falling off...

Words of wisdom anyone? Thanks!!

OK...I'm just going to jump in deep water surprise, having never layed on a latex before, and order through foamsbymail.com and get a 9" Queen- 6" Firm, 2" Med, 1" Soft with the Terry Cloth zippered case which will cost about $878 (they just had a dang price increase on Friday while I was dragging my feet!)

For the cost of their foam, if we don't like a layer, we can just use the layer on another bed (such as the kids) and get a new layer and not have to do any of this mailing it back stuff.

They did email me their certificate about it being 100% Natural Latex from Europe.

I eventually want to order that wool cover though from Dormier.

I think you have made a smart decision but only time and the sleep test will tell.  I hope the European latex is good quality.   Order the washable wool mattress pad sooner rather than later.  I put the Natura wool cover on my all latex mattress and LOVE it!   It really tops off the entire bed and evens out the temps in an amazing way.   Good luck.

Thanks...do you happen to have a link to that? I'll check it out!

IMHO the Dormier is more pliable and will not interfere with the feel of the latex.

Yes, go with the Dormeir by all means.   I didn't mean to recommend the Natura over the Dormeir but was trying to push the benefits of a wool mattress pad over latex. (my top layer of latex is uncovered)  The Natura is a bit less money but is stiffer and has some noticeable stitching lines.  I'd probably buy the Dormeir if I had it to do all over again.

Well see now I wondered about that...I'd rather not have the terry cloth material on the latex but figured we needed to keep all the layers together somehow! So, would you take the terry cloth cover off all together and just use the Dormier on top? It just skirts around the sides right, it's not a complete cover.

I was concerned also if the latex breaks off easily in chunks, does it? Like rolling out of bed or sitting on the edge of it....

I would leave the latex layers encased in the terry cover for stability and use the Dormier for comfort and temperature control.  The Dormier is generously sized so it won't tighten up the bed and will have lots of give.

Is the Dormier thin enough not to take away from the latex?

I have mine on top of 3 mattresses, one a standard Serta and two others that have memory foam toppers so I can't specifically reply to your latex concern.  I can say that it does not interfere with the sinking-in feeling of the memory foam and certainly allows me to sleep cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
