Mem Foam + Latex Topper

Hi All,

My wife and I recently purchased a new bed.  At first we had purchased a full memory foam bed which she loved but made my back hurt like crazy.  It was a lower density "plush" foam and I found that while I felt firm when i went to sleep I woke up feeling like I was in a caccoon with my lower half sunk in an extra inch and leaving my spine all out of whack.

In any event we could only do an exchange so I thought the smartest thing to do was exchange for a nice firm set of coils that I could build on later.  Unfortunately every single bed had some type of pillow top so I found the most supportive one I could, in this case a 2 inch memory foam top.  This bed is a lot more comfortable for me but even with just the 2" of memory foam I find I sink in as the night goes on.  I don't weigh much (5'10" 155lbs) but i sleep very hot and it seems to make the foam turn into goo.

My wife on the other hand wants a little more memory foam as the 2" built in topper isn't quite enough to relieve all the pressure from the firm base.  Fortunately we have a King so I am planning to try and find a twin xl memory foam topper for her side and a reasonably firm latex topper for my side (I would have gone latex from day 1 but she does not like the feel at all - oh well!).

My questions:

* Does 2 inch sound like the right height?  I know they make 1" and 3" but 1 doesn't sound like it would do much and 3" seems like it may be overkill.

* Are there any recommended places to look for these?  I know there are a lot of cheapo knockoffs in both the memory foam and latex business.

* What sort of ILD is good for a firm latex topper?  I don't want a rock but I do like things pretty firm.  The only 3 mornings I have woken up with 0 pain in 2 months was in my tent on the ground with a .75" rubber mat underneath me!

Sorry for being long winded!  Thanks a lot!
