memory foam in mid-layer??
I spoke with a salesman at Verlo mattress today, as i'd slept on a friend's Verlo bed and wanted to find out what's in it. He spoke of the 1" layers of foam in the pillow-top, one of which was memory foam. But the MF was in a middle layer; he said this is so that it doesn't make the person sleeping on it hot...Doesn't this negate its properties, though? I mean, doesn't MF need to be on the top layer, because, sensitive to heat, that's how it conforms to one's body and does its inherent job? Or can it have value being in a mid-layer? Thanks for any input...;) |
Re: memory foam in mid-layer??
I can't give you a definitive answer, but I have tried memory foam in various layers just to see if it might "work". It seems to work to some extent. I, for example, sink down too much into even very firm memory foam such as Sensus and Venus and it hurts my back. So I tried putting it down underneath a 1" layer of latex and it does seem to help. I am not sure it really does a GOOD job because frankly my mattress experiments lately have been disastrous and I just got tired of messing with it and so am buying the spring mattress which will hopefully give me more success, once I have springs to add my foam on top of. But it SEEMS like it did add softness to the mattress even though it was a lower layer. As to it "working" as memory foam should work - responding to your weight, relative to where your weight sinks in - I don't know. You probably know this or have heard me and other say it, but I would NEVER buy a "pillow top" in any mattress. All "pillowtop" means is extra foam - almost certainly cheap crappy pu foam - that is going to break down quickly, causing a need for either a new mattress or mattress surgery. My sister in law and her boyfriend just bought one and they say after only one week their backs are killing them. That's no surprise to me. I wish they'd have consulted me before buying. I'd have told them to buy a FIRM mattress then add their own latex and /or Sensus memory foam toppers from someplace like overstock.com. |
Re: memory foam in mid-layer??
Thanks for your advice, Jim. I'm going to try it as a mid-layer, and see how it goes...Will report back! |
