Moving out from my parents in about two weeks.  I am 23 6'1"  190 pounds.  I know I do not want latex.  Any suggestions/ideas on a mattress I can get for around $500.00.  Moving from Buffalo, NY to Apex, NC because of work.

We bought our mattresses from here:   http://originalmattress.com/locations

While they have latex, they also have other, less expensive mattresses.  They are have quite a variety of types and sizes and you should be able to find something you like.  They are easy to deal with and don't play games on the prices like many of the large chains.

We bought latex but it would probably be over your budget anyway.

Thank you Sall.  Ended up with the Classic Mattress from Original Mattress Factory.  Had money left over and now shopping for a memory foam topper.  Any suggestions?  When I went to Costco, theirs seems really cheap and even though price looked good.  I keep reading about density and such being important when buying memory foam.

Anything more than one inch of memory foam bothers my back and, so depending on your budget, you may want to consider latex toppers soft toppers.  They are more expensive but will last for a long time.  Sleeps Like a Bear has about every ILD range you could ask for and their 14 ILD is soft but provides some support.  You could get a soft 22-24 ILD topper from Sleepez or other places if you want something a little less soft....but still soft (and cheaper than SLAB).  There are some cheaper places but IMHO the best latex comes from Latex International.  I've purchased from Sleepez and SLAB and they were great and had little to no odor.   If you go with latex, you may want to build one inch at a time to keep the cost down.  I'm sure others with memory foam toppers will have some suggestions too.
