Need some help on several topics

I have an 8 year old King S&F Kingsbury. This mattress weighs a ton. It took 3 people to get it into our room. S&F suggests you rotate, which we have done. However, we have noticed that it is not as comfortable. Not a big sag on the sides, but a noticeable improvement when you lie in the middle. I inspected the box springs. The fabric sags, the metal wire is the only thing supporting. I stuck a few 4" wide by 3' long 1' thick slats of wood under the area with less suport. It seems to impove the sag considerably. However, does not have the more comfortable feel of the middle.  I suffered a severe ruptured disc 6 months ago in my lower back and am healing, but don't want to spend alot of time with trial and error.

Questions:

1) My Bed:

     a) Is my bed shot, padding shot, springs shot?

     b) Are our box springs (2 twins) shot

     c) Or, Should I inserts over the area of Box Springs with 1/4" plywood and then buy a latex sleeper Pad for on top of the bed?

I am not too keen on cutting open the bed if the bed is a lost cause.

2) I have never tried latex and have been having a tough time time finding a retail store that carries a bed similar to what most are purchasing, i.e.EZSleep 100% latex. Can someone tell me which major brand that is solid core latex similar to EZsleep & FBM or is this wave of latex on latex an interenet phenomenom? Also people with lower back issues tend to do better with the latex bed do to its firmness?

3) I noticed several internet sites offering mattesses with dirt on corners etc... from shipping. Most are the "S" brand and can be had for 10-20% of Full Retail. The "Caveat" is that they are void of warranty and you cannot return. Does anyone have experience going this direction?
