I've been lurking and using everyone for their information. Here's my story. My husband & I had decided after realizing that our mattress was 18 years old that a new one was needed. We did the normal store to store dance and lay before determining that we like squishing floating on a cloud top but needed some support for his lower back that likes to go out a few times a year. He can fall asleep as soon as the period is put on the end of his sentence. I take longer, flip/flop throughout the night and hear the dog & kids turn over in other rooms. I thought a pillow top was out because they form wells. I couldn't stand the feel of memory foam. This brought us to latex. We couldn't afford the multiple thousands of dollars some of these beds are retailed for. After researching places that are routinely listed and talked about here I found that we could get a three layer foambymail for about $1000. Our problem was what exactly did we need. I found a little family owned mattress company only 20 miles from me that would build any mattress we wanted. Who'd a thunk it?? I called and asked if they made latex beds, sure come on in. We arrived last Sat at a non-descript warehouse building and were greeted by the owner and his 3 dogs. He was very big on latex and wished more people had a clue what it was and how great it could be especially for those with allergies (I wake up with a headache and stuffy nose everyday and I know it's the 18yr old mattress). I told him what we liked including the feel of pillow tops but without a pillowtop. Almost every bed they make is flippable. Anyway he proceeds to drag out different density and thickness layers, rearranging until we found what we liked. It's amazing to find this kind of customer service. We have 30 days to make sure it's right, if not they come out with other density/layers and swap them out. We ended up with 6" firm 2" medium 3" soft. My husband loved the 3" of soft, I think it will end up being to soft but hey we have a month. The owner did say if we like that pillowtop feel but this is to soft to get a feathertop cover from Kohls, fluff it and replace it occasionally. I thought-hey I've heard that somewhere! The queen mattress, terry cloth zippered cover, wooden base and 2 latex pillows came to $1183. This includes tax, free delivery and removal. I think we did pretty good especially since we got to buy from a little family business locally. I highly recommend (so far) the Maplewood Custom Bedding Co if you live in the St Louis area. I appreciate everything I've learned here. I'll let you know how it sleeps. It will be delivered either Thursday or next Tuesday (I'm off these days). He wasn't sure how quick the beds in front of us would be made. ' This message was modified Feb 18, 2009 by luvhockey
