new to this... would this work
I am looking at buying the mattress found here... https://www.sleepwarehouse.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=26
3" Sensus from Sleepwarehouse 2" Talalay Latex Foam Topper Soft (20 ILD) from FBM 2" Talalay Latex Foam Topper Medium (32 ILD) from FBM 3" HD36-HQ Foam FBM or Something else? Would it also be wise to add a 1 or 2" latex of 20 above or below the sensus? This message was modified Sep 24, 2008 by runpuddrun

Re: new to this... would this work
Both sound like very soft beds. I doubt if you would get enough support to prevent back aches. 4-5" of cushiness sounds like too much to me, even for a side sleeper (if that is what you are). You could copy someone else's bed that has had success instead of reinventing the wheel. There are many posts here where people share their experiences. |
Re: new to this... would this work
3" of 4# low-budget Overstock.com memory foam was too much cush for me (165#) and my wife (125#). She actually got acute back pain from it, and it went away when we took off the foam. 35 ILD of HR foam is more like a medium or medium-firm layer. I have the HD36-HQ (ILD 36) from FBM and it is good as a transition layer. My opinion is that you might need more firmness at the very bottom (such as Lux-HQ), and less cush at the top. At the very least, I agree with the other reply that it sure seems like way too much cush... you guys are going to sink in too much, and your wife is not going to get any support. I have the FBM 20 ILD and 32 ILD latex on order. I only have samples on hand. Yeah, the latex is "springy". It is not near as soft as memory foam. It recovers very fast, much faster than any other kind of foam I know of. Some people have described it as like sleeping on Jello, and I can totally see where they are coming from. I'll know first hand in a week or so. |
Re: new to this... would this work
Thanks for the info. It seems that the "mattress" on Sleepwarehouse would be very soft and allow too much singing in. I ended up ordering this: 2" Isoform 1" 20 ILD latex from FBM 3 " HQ 36 ILD from FBM 2 " 32 ILD latex from FBM 2 " HQ 50 ILD from FBM 360 Zippered Velour from ebay Total cost was $37 + 230.40 +236.98 +129.33 for a total of 633.71 for a queen. We have been sleeping on a Twin now, so a Queen should be a lot more room than what we are on now. I decided to go with the Isoform compared to the Sensus based on reviews and cost, and the fact that my wife likes it a little more firm which it seems the Isoform is compared to the Sensus. I think that it will be a very nice surface to sleep on compared to the 18 yr old daybed me and my wife are sleeping on now... What do you think? This message was modified Sep 26, 2008 by runpuddrun

Re: new to this... would this work
I got a tracking # from FBM, but I don't know what to think of the package weights. In the UPS email, it is quoted as 53 lbs and 2 packages. Surely this cannot be all of my order. How much should this all weight when shipped? I am not a math person and do not know such a formula to figure this out. This is the order I made. HDHQ3F HD36 High Qual. Foam - Full Sheet - 82"x76"x 3" 1 density 2.8 LHQ2F Lux High Qual. Foam - Full Sheet - 82"x76"x 2" 1 density 2.8 LTX2TLY-Q_ 2" Queen 60x80 - Medium - Talalay Latex 5.6LB 1 ? LTX1TLY-Q 1" Queen 60x80 - Soft - Talalay Latex 5.6LB 1 ? |
Re: new to this... would this work
No problem, here's the formula and the results: Assuming dimensions in inches and density in pounds-per-square-foot: Weight = Length x Width x Height x Density / 1728 HDHQ3F HD36 High Qual. Foam - Full Sheet - 82"x76"x 3" 1 density 2.8 --> 30.3 lbs LHQ2F Lux High Qual. Foam - Full Sheet - 82"x76"x 2" 1 density 2.8 --> 20.2 lbs LTX2TLY-Q_ 2" Queen 60x80 - Medium - Talalay Latex 5.6LB 1 --> 31.1 lbs LTX1TLY-Q 1" Queen 60x80 - Soft - Talalay Latex 5.6LB 1 --> 15.6 lbs Total weight = 97.2 lbs. Click around on the UPS tracking website. I seem to recall having the same issue, and then I was able to find the weight of the second package. |
Re: new to this... would this work
I think I know what happened. I forgot to mention that I made 2 seperate orders, one from foambymail.com and the other foamdistributing.com... IT looks like the foambymail.com one (the HQ stuff) is being shipped and the other one is not yet. The weights of the 2 packages are 31 and 22 lbs respectively, does that seem about right? Does it normally take foamdistributing longer to respond, or can I expect an tracking # from them for the latex order? DO you think thy could have shipped out at the same time? Re: new to this... would this work
I ordered from both at the same time. Foam by mail came first. One had a tracking email, the other didn't. |
Re: new to this... would this work
Great post and information from all of you. I would consider doing this is shipping, customs and currency exchange didn't make it to expensive. Then there is my wife to deal with. What type of box ... slat are all of you using or planning to use? |
Re: new to this... would this work
I just got an email reply back from FBM. They said that the latex will be shipping out today w/ tracking #. I will be building a platform bed for the mattress tonight actually. We'll see how it all looks when finished. |
