Hi all, I had the perfect bed for 10 years that I had bought from a local store. The bed is gone (long story but not the bed's fault) and the store is gone and now I have all kinds of back pain so I am trying to replace what had worked for me for so long. The bed was the best bed ever, anyone who slept in it commented on its comfort. I suspect it was latex based on the descriptions you all have posted here, and given that I bought it in '99 and it was relatively cheap I'm guessing it was dunlop. It didn't shake much but was somewhat bouncy and definitely firm, and had what I think was a wool pillowtop. There were definitely no springs in it, you could tell when you moved it it was all foam. So, I am thinking of going with a very, very firm layer (45ILD or such) for 3", then a less firm but still firm layer (36-ish ILD) as a base and building comfort levels from there, to go under the st. domier wool top which sounds an awful lot like the pillowtop I had. My first question is about Foamorder.com - has anyone used this company? It's the only one I could find with very firm (hard they call it) 3" layers. My second question is about mattress covers - foamorder.com stressed the importance of protecting against sun and air and suggested at least a double cotton cover or two. I read somewhere that some people have experienced a drying out as well. Also, I wonder if dust mite protection is necessary if the foam doesn't support mites. I'd like to protect the base as much as possible and am hoping it will last a good chunk of time. The comfort layers I'm a little less concerned about because I think I will end up swapping them around a bit anyway. Any suggestions on covers and thoughts on foamorder.com?
Thanks, and great site! Without all the knowledge sharing here I think I might have ended up replacing S beds year after year, and truly, if the bed I had was indeed latex there is really no substitute...
