Rhapsody delivered last night (Tempurpedic)

I was sleeing on EMMA or the 10 inch sleep science version sold at Costco and wasnt all that unhappy with it, but had to try the big boy

Last night was the worst night I have had in months...all of my bad back areas were hurting.

Now, the installers warned me that the bed had been in a cold warehouse and therefore stiffer than normal, that it would take a while to warm up and get into its normal condition...

So, I am hoping that is it, as it is really stiff, so I turned the heat way up and will leave it up all day...

Fortunately I have a 90 day refund option available, I lose $150 only  and since it cost over $4000, that is a good thing...

I will keep you informed as to how it goes, fingers crossed.

Randy, my unsolicited advice is to give up on memory foam except as one small layer within a mattress, either a topper or right below the topper.
You want to stick only with mattresses that offer sleep trials, as you sound a bit like me in the sense of having a hard time finding the right mattress.
(I solved the problem by going with mattress surgery.)

I think the CostCo might be a good next try as long as you can return it for a refund if you don't like it.

If that doesn't work, I'd ether a) buy a mattress for the springs and then put in your own layers (to me, this is the most likely way you will get satisfaction); or b) buy something like flobeds because it does have a sleep guarantee, and you can change it around. It's really not much hassle at all.

my problem is i have to sleep on something for a while before i know if it works as i have upper back pain that requires soft and lower that requires firm, if i react too soon i might get rid of the layer i need, etc...man, what a pain

hey maybe something good for that- cut & assemble your own topper so that it has sections of varying ild's as needed from head to toe (all within one layer).

you could for instance have memory foam in the top 1/3 section where you're upper body needs soft, then firm latex in the midsection etc.  sealy actually does something just like this with their x7 visco/latex layer in their signature mattresses, buried in the comfort layers.  i'd want the puzzle-layer jUST under a thin topper so you could actually feel the difference, but no seams (unless you got fancy & beveled the edges so they overlap a little bit).  that's how many are though, they want it firmer in the hips, where you start siinking & hurts your lower back, then softer in the shoulders where you get pressure points.  it's just wasteful to cut into two toppers to make one, unless you buy it wholesale & can use the leftovers or something.

If I were doing that, and had leftover layers of latex or memory foam,  I'd use the leftovers to make a dog bed for my dog :)  I was looking at his bed yesterday and thinking it must not be very comfortable, and the poor guy is getting on in years.  Pets deserve to be comfortable too
