Hi, someone gave me a used mattress/box spring set as my old one was pretty well beat. The box spring says Serta, but the mattress doesn't say, just has numbers 1 and 3 on one side, and 2 and 4 on the other side, which I assume is the order to turn the mattress every few months. The box spring also has "Serta Hotel Quality - made exclusively for Signature Inn". Actually the set is pretty firm and comfortable, I sleep good on it compared to what I had. However it took some doing to get it down into my full bed frame, it's a very tight fit in there, and kind of hard to manouver to edges to change sheets. However the main problem I have is getting the right size fitted and regular sheets. Best I can measure the mattress is 52 inches wide by 78 inches long. I cannot find this size mattress referered to at all in my online Google searches, seems to be somewhere between a full and a queen? Any ideas where I can get a couple sets of free or cheap sheet sets for this (fitted and flat), I'm on a limited income. I can't afford specialty prices. I tried reguar sheets I had from my old mattress, the fitted sheet keeps pulling off the corners, and are all ripped from trying to force them the extra few inches, and the flast sheets just don't reach. I assume king and queen sheets would be too long and wide? Thanks much for any advice. Dan |
my best advice to you if you do not wish to spend specialty pricing is to find any place that sells sheeting ala carte (like fitted and flat sheets seperately). In Europe it is extremely common to not have elasticized fitted sheets, they simply use two flat sheets, one that is tucked under the mattress. 2 regular double flat sheets gets you a bottom sheet and a top sheet in this configuration. The other nice thing about using sheets this way is that you can cycle which sheet you use as the bottom sheet since they always wear out quicker than the top sheet. |
Thanks budgy, I'll look into this, guess I'd have to try a king size sheet to tuck under, and hopefully it reaches enough to tuck at the head/foot of the bed. |
You have a Full Extra Long, 53X80, a common size at hotels. You can find sheets online.

Thanks again budgy, I'll see what sizes I have laying around. My mattress seems normal thickness. |
