First of all thanks to all of the conntributors on this forumn.  I have learned so much in such a short time.  This is my first post

I need help in comparing the Aerus foam topper sold by Rocky Mt againnst the Talalay latex foam topper sold by Foam By Mail.  The topper will be used on top of a conventional firm mattress and box spring.

I weigh 195lbs and my wife weighs 115lbs.  We both sleep on our sides.  I am looking for a topper that will be the coolest in the Summer and with the most motion transfer reduction.  In either case I was thinking of the 3inch size.  The Rocky Mt website advertises the  Aerus to be the most efficient of foam toppers when it comes to dissipating heat.

I welcome your thoughts

I'm embarking on a quest to replicate, for my wife, the feel of a Pranasleep Wahe Guru but at a significantly lower price.

This is the first step, the topper. Next comes the FloBed I've been specing out. When I'm finished I plan on being 95-98% the same feel and quality, yet I will have spent less than half.

The Celsion is only my first stepdevil

Sorry SleeperJohn....didn't mean to hijack your question.

I weigh about 260lbs and my wife weighs about 160lbs we are both primarily side sleepers but my wife sometimes sleep on her back.

Our mattress is a worn out Serta Perfect Night, king size, non pillowtop, firm(?), I've been researching latex beds that will satisfy both our preferences in firmness and comfort. My wife fell in love with a $7K Pranasleep mattress but because of the price tag I'm going to try to replicate its' firmness and comfort elsewhere.

One of the things touted by the Prana salesman was its use of Outlast in the cover material, Outlast is a phase change material which is suppose to help you be cooler when it's warm and warmer when it is cold.    I chose to replicate this by purchasing a 2" Celsion topper from Sleeplikeabear.com. This "layer" is what I plan to substitute in place of the 2" convoluted topper which comes in the FloBed latex mattress I hope to talk my wife into soon

We did not like the memory foam feel because we found it hard to "roll" from one position to another without considerable effort because of the inherant memory of your last physical position. (Mind you this was on a bed... so a topper might not sink in as much)

Have you gone to a store and laid on any viscoelastic beds? If not may I suggest you do so you can get an idea of the molding characterisitc of this foam. You may or may not like this actual feeling. Remember this foam is temperature sensitive so the longer you lay in one spot the more it molds to you as you sink in (Not sure how far this sinking in goes until it stops..I know it doesn't happen forever or you'd end up at the bottomsad )

Celsion is an expensive product so it's not for everyone.... I have a specific purpose in mind for the topper I bought. We did sleep on it last night (even though it had a smell when I first unpacked it ) and I was very comfortable moving from right to left side and back during the night. My wife said it did seem cooler to her than the night before and she liked the cushyness. She said she didn't notice me changing positions during the night. Later this week our temps are going to be in the high 60's, low 70's so with our blood still thick from winter and air conditioners still in the attic we'll see if she still feels cooler.

No problem RJB.  In fact I too am leaning towards latex and was looking at the Celsion topper from SLAB.  I was looking at this as well as the latex from Rocky Mountain.  I am actually curious to hear more from you in re: to your own Celson topper.  I was thinking of going for a 3inch topper

What you are comparing is quite different in feel.  The Sensus is lovely memory foam, and of the memory foams, it is one of the coolest.  However, memory foam sleeps hot in general, so that doesn't necessarily mean cool.

Latex is a completely different feel.  It is more supportive and, to me, bouncy.  It doesn't have the reputation for sleeping hot.  The feel of memory foam is sink-y, it does not have any rebound, or bounce.  Some say it is like sinking in wet cement.

So the determining factor is what you feel like you prefer, I suppose.  If it is to soften your mattress, the memory foam is soft.

When my husband and I tried toppers, he liked the latex best, whereas I felt like I woke up every time I turned over...it bounced me awake.

I liked the memory foam best, because it was like whipped cream...but he didn't like the feeling.  So I just got a twin for my side.

Hope this helps a little...
