Have had my TP for a couple of weeks and it still smells horrible. I let it air out in my bedroom with the windows open and the cover off for a week before I slept on it. Also put a plate of apple wedges and baking soda on it. I'm running a HEPA air cleaner that also has a special filter for gasses in that room 24 hours a day. Got the ceiling fan and a huge powerful box fan running. Can't use Febreze or any other fabric refresher, as I'm allergic to scents. Any other ideas? |
this is a common complaint with memory foam and polyurethane foam in general. they are made with some not so nice chemicals. some batches are definitely worse than others. if you get one that is very smelly, it's best to return it, sorry to say. glues are also used in some mattresses and these can be very toxic as well. in fact, i think there are often some 60+ chemicals used in mattresses today, many of which are not good for the human body, leading a lot of people to search for healthier alternatives. there isn't a lot to choose from that is healthy, unfortunately. i recently purchased a new mattress that stunk up the whole house. we couldn't get near it, much less sleep on it. after almost a week, with fans blowing, windows open, etc, i said, enough! and returned it. ridiculous! that it is so difficult to find a healthy mattress nowadays. Called TP today about the pillow I ordered. It's been showing up in tracking as "payment authorized" for a few days, so I wondered why it wasn't shipped yet. They said they just finished manufacturing the pillows today and they'll ship tomorrow. I guess I can expect major off-gassing since it's going to be so "fresh". Ugh! I was hoping they were manufactured some time ago so that some of the off-gassing would have been done in the warehouse. As for the mattress, blowing the fan through the airflow chambers helped a lot! It still smells, but not so bad that I couldn't sleep on it last night. |
