Okay, after finding this site earlier today I haven't stopped reading trying to figure out what to do.  We have a queen size sleep number and I call it our concave bed - my wife and I are tilted towards each other (which is okay cause I kinda like her) but we both are waking up each morning in pain.  I have back issues, she does not (yet).  I sleep better on our couches that are too short for me.  Blah.

So, we laid on the very soft pillow top at Sams that cost like $599.  Then I read something on Amazon about not getitng those because you can't flip them.  Then, I figured I'd better do some research and came onto this site.  Wow - I had no idea how little I knew.

(By the way - I was talking to my wife about these and she was half paying attention - she heard: mattresses, latex, and cutting - she raised an eyebrow like I'm into turning our bed into some BDSM thing.)

Anyway, I found a couple of site for some local guys in Austin, TX.

http://www.sleepworld.net/latex/

and

http://www.bedsbedsandmore.net/pages/catalog.php?category=latex

and are both like a block away from each other.  I was trying to stay under $1000 - but if I need to go up a couple of hundred for a huge upgrade then I can do that.  Kids don't have to eat every meal do they?

Any suggestions or warnings / things to avoid on some of the cheaper ones?  The 'green' or 'natural' stuff is not important to me; price and being able to move in the morning are.  Thanks!

The sleepworld.net I posted was on Phoenix's "Texas" list.  As it is local, I'll go check it out.  It has a list of 8 different choices.  Four of them are out of my price range (unless that 1599 one can be justified) so that leaves 4 others to eliminate.

The one where Phoenix bought his - highly tempting since you both recommend it highly and know what you're doing.  I drive right by that place every time I go to my in-laws in Bedford to watch high school football playoff games.  Problem is - season just ended and I don't see going up there anytime soon.  I'll give updates in hopes y'all can help avoiding mistakes.

Thanks for the help!

There are a few other Austin choices on the list as well. While you are in "testing mode" I would pay no attention to the price of the mattresses you were laying on as knowing the construction of what feels and performs best for you is more important and some of the best "testing" mattresses are the more expensive ones. The final buying choice where you compare value is the final step and excluding expensive mattresses from your testing will not be nearly as "helpful" in gaining the information you need to make the best choices when it comes time to actually buy.
