Back Pain with my Tempurpedic

Hi folks,

Posted here a couple of times before. Here's my situation, it's coming up on 90 days for my tempurpedic, called my store and they will do an exchange. So the wife and I bought a Cloud Luxe and Rhapsody, split king, meaning they are Twin XLs. I bought the Cloud Luxe and she bought the Rhapsody. It ended up that I was getting lower back pain with the Cloud Luxe, so we switched beds. Now the wife loves the Cloud Luxe and won't give it back. I've been using the Rhapsody for the past 3-4 weeks, the back pain isn't as bad as with the Cloud Luxe, I love the feel of the Cloud Luxe but I'm 210lbs, so probably not enough support. The Rhapsody causes way less stiffness/pain but it still not perfect, the lower back is sore but not like the Cloud Luxe where I couldn't even tie my shoe laces until I got warmed up. I'm in my early 30's, no health problems at all, that is until I sleep and wake up sore, the whole day after I get moving I feel great and can exercise and do anything.

So I've been experimenting lately, bought a polyurathane topper, the cheap kind for $20 and put that on top of the Rhapsody, feels slightly better but the back is slightly stiff, it may take a couple of days to get used to it. At this point, I'm thinking I need to go a bit softer than the Rhapsody, maybe the Allura, the wife thinks I should go firmer. I like a soft feel hence originally went with the Cloud Luxe. The addition of the topper making things a bit better leads me to believe I should go a bit softer. The Rhapsody feels like I have a gap between the bed and my lower back when I lie in it. The Cloud Luxe envelopes my back.

I have slept on the Classic Tempurpedic bed for years during college when Brookstone was originally only selling it back in the day and never had problems.

Any insight is appreciated.

Good Sleep,

I should mention that I do have Prodigy bases for both beds but I would really like to sleep flat and not be in pain, if I'm paying so much for the mattress. When I do raise the foot of the bed to #30 on the Prodigy, no pain or soreness when I wake up. But I prefer to sleep flat, just seems unnatural to me to sleep with my legs up. But I figure since I can still exchange the bed, I should adjust the bed first before having to adjust the bed. Maybe I am asking for too much.. should be happy I have adjustable bases and just sleep with my legs up.

My wife and i just bought the Allura Bed CALK with no split with prodigy base last week and we love it.  I'm early 30's and about 205 on a good day and my wife is around the same.  Before we bought this bed we slept on a 16 year old spring mattress that caused back pain every day.  For so long we had just felt that’s how life was, we had bad backs.  But now, after getting the Allura we are pain free and were pain free on day 1.  I  love the bed, i wanted to get at least the Rhapsody because it had HD foam and from what i read hear if you over 175 you really need the HD foam as it will hold up better and it offers more support.  Rhapsody is nice, but the top is missing something and felt hard to me.  So i tried the allura and loved it,  It's got all the support you need with HD foam and it has a pillow top like layer that feels like heaven to me.  Since the top layer is HD foam it should not break down over the years.  I love the feeling of waking up pain free; this bed has been a god send so far.  I highly recommend it.

After ditching my CL for a Tempur Contour Signature, I miss the CL.  The CS seems hard to me and I am in so much pain in the morning.   Hoping it breaks in quickly!!

So I decided to exchange the Cloud Luxe for the Allura, I'll be getting in about 2 weeks since they have to order it but I'll post a review once I sleep on it.

Here are my impressions with the whole new Coutour Line. The Contour signature says that it's a med-firm bed, same as the rhapsody but I think it's a bit softer. I think the Rhapsody is the firmest bed that they make because the Coutour tempur material is initially harder but it a lot mushier and not as dense as the HD in the Rhapsody, so when they say it's firmer, it's true to a certain point. My opinion is that the Rhapsody is the firmest bed even over the Coutour line because of the HD.

I decided on the Allura because I've been using a topper for the Rhapsody I have and it makes it better, so I'm hoping for the best.
