Flobeds or latex experts - need help by friday
After much researching and reading this forum for the past couple of weeks we've decided to buy our latex mattress from Flobeds. But they are having a sale on the natural latex beds going on that ends Friday (tomorrow!) and I still don't know what combination we should get. If I want to take advantage of this I need to act fast. I know about the return policy (that's why we're choosing them) but I want to make the right start. I have two major questions: 1. I understand that natural latex is superior to blended. My husband is 220 lbs and I worry about him bottoming out on a 9" mattress, but the 12" mattress in natural latex is more than we wanted to spend. So if our budget forced a choice between the 9" in natural and the 12" in blended, which do you all think would be the better choice? 2. I need quite a bit of firmess for my back and am tempted to go all firm even though I'm not heavy (135 lb). But I also need pressure relief for my joints. Which combination of layers would give me more support and pressure relief: two firm layers, or an extra firm topped by a medium? Any and all insight and opinions are welcome - I'm really having a hard time with this. Linda |

Linda: I would think that the all natural 3 inch three layer plus 2 inch convoluted top piece mattress would be the way to go. I feel that your side would probably be comfortable with the bottom piece extra firm, middle piece firm, top piece medium. Husband's side, bottom piece extra firm, middle piece extra firm, and top piece firm. that way if his side does not feel firm enough he could put the firm piece in the middle between the two extra firm pieces. I have found that the second layer contributes a great deal to the support and feel of the mattress. I cannot speak to what changing out the bottom layer does as I have never done this. But the most reassuring thing is that by buying the bed from FloBeds you have unlimited exchanges for 90 days. Plus the fact that Dave Turner and his son Dewey will do everything in their power to make sure that you are a satisfied customer. At least this has been my experience, and from what I read on these boards it is the experience from everybody else who has dealt with them. Good luck to you in your search for a comfortable mattress. This message was modified Jan 22, 2010 by eagle2

Thanks all, I ordered my mattress this afternoon. Natural Latex, F-F-X (or F-X-F) for me, F-X-X for my husband. You were right - Dave was happy to talk through various options to accommodate my fused spine. I was skeptical since in my experience most sales people won't stick their necks out to make a recommendation once you mention a medical issue. But I got the distinct impression that I'm a very long way from being the first customer with back problems he's ever dealt with. I'm feeling pretty good about this. I initially balked at the price, but then I realized that this will probably be the first mattress I've ever bought that won't be a waste of money - I can fine tune it to get it just right, but if I really can't make it work in the end all I've lost is shipping costs. I've been searching for a good mattress for a long long time, and I feel like this may be just the thing for non-standard people like me. Linda |
