Just a couple of quick questions about Foamex Sensus toppers.. with 2" of Sensus on an FBM lux-hq slab, would I need a layer of something between them to transition from the firm(!) lux to the soft Sensus? And, how long does Sensus foam last? Or, to rephrase, how many years of use should I expect to get out of it? Thanks, Jim |

This is more or less a pro latex anti memory foam forum. Foamex memory foam is very good. Company was near bankruptcy before they brought out Sensus,Aeurs,and Venus. Sold rights to name to a company in CA called Anatomic Global. The original Foamex stuff is very good. The Anatomic Global sold at overstock.com among others is not so good. The Foamex made stuff is in dwindling supply. I bought mine from memoryfoamsuperstore on Ebey a few years ago. Seems thye still have some left. 1 inch Venus 4 inch Aerus 3 inch Reflex 28 lbs 3 inch Reflex 35 lbs. If I had to do it again I would still buy the Venus and Aeurs from memoryfoamsuperstore. I would buy 3 inch Lux regular foam 2.8 PCF 50 lbs and 2.8 PCF 35 lbs from foamdistributing.com for my base. Unless you are very thin or like very soft bed. Then I would skip the 5O lbs stuff and add Reflex 28 lbs. But to answer OP question. Sensus made by Faomex will last 10 plus years depending on weight of person and if you use the bed for more than sleeping. Like sitting on it all day watching TV. You don't need a transition layer from firm to Sensus. If under 200 lbs all you need is 3 inches if over 200 lbs get 4 inches. 2 inches will not do much good other than slighly soften a very firm bed. This message was modified Jan 9, 2010 by DeeAgeaux

| i bought it from a foam shop, called 'the foam shop' lol i think, i'm in canada tho.... i'm not sure what happened, but in the end my back was acting like it had no support in the recessed parts of my body, like my waist i mean, it was like i was sleeping in a dip, but i figured it was because the memory foam was responding to my core heat and getting too soft after laying down for a while, because it felt GREAT when i first got into bed.... |
| I used the original Sensus for a number of years and it never showed any signs of wear. I have no idea if the new Sensus is any good or not. You will have to try it on your bed to determine if you need an intermediate layer or not. |

Thanks, Jim I wanted to point out that if this forum is "anti-memory foam" it's not by design, just by coincidence that people who love latex have gravitated here, and most of us have not found memory foam to work for us. I am one who never liked latex that much, NOR memory foam. But of the two, I have gotten used to at least some latex in my mattress, and though I keep wanting to like memory foam, because I like the feel and concept of it, it just does not seem to work for me. I am one who bought the Anatomic Global (assuming the poster above is correct about that) sold at overstock.com and I agree, it is not so good. To me, it seems to offer almost no support and hurts my lower back when I sleep on it. I had 2 inches of it. I also have 1" of Venus sold at overstock.com and I can't say for sure but it seems to me it is not of good quality. To me, it was just as flimsy as the Sensus, though from what I read it is "supposed to be" better. To me, it's not. However, at times I have used the 1" of Venus and slept okay on it as a topper or just under the top layer. I think the main difference between the Sensus and Venus in my case is that the Venus is only 1" so I can tolerate it better. Otherwise, I would probably prefer the Sensus because it's cheaper and about the same quality, it seems to me. My conclusion is that there may be some really good, supportive memory foam out there, but I haven't found it. I tried Tempurpedic with miserable results, as well, and I tried varioius 3lb and 4lb memory foams as well.In fact I have some in my closet now that I'd throw out except that it serves to cushion the floor if we have company and not enough beds. If I were to use the Sensus or Venus on my own bed, I would use only 1/2 to 1" of it. To me, 2" of it is inviting lower back problems. That's my 2 centavitos. (If you get the original, better Sensus or Venus, as the poster said was available, then who knows? But my sense is that all memory foam breaks in quickly and does not provide enough support after a short time. Sorry, but that's my experience with the stuff.
