I really thought I had my mattress fixed for good! I am so sad, it happened when I changed my sheets. This is so strange. Of course I have been having hip pain from my chair and I exercised alot yesterday. But I have been having pain since Sunday so I guess I get use to the new setup and after 1-2 weeks I get pain again. The mattress feels good when I lay on it (side sleeping) so I don't understand why after 1-2 hours it causes pain again. I think I am always going to have this. I don't believe it is latex pushing back on me, if that were so my back would bother me too. It really has me frustrated. My back has no problems at all with this setup. But when I sleep on my side I wake up with hip pain. I guess as Sandman and others have said you will never be 100% happy with a mattress and it could be aging, just plain hip pain. I really am bummed out. |
We hear so many great things about latex, I think we begin to believe that it's the solution to all our problems. It isn't. We need to remember that latex is an alternative sleep surface to a traditional spring mattress, and especially an alternative to the cheap PU foam mattresses the major S brand companies are putting out these days. Compared to the S brand mattressess, they are a huge improvement. Compared to Tempurpedics and other memory foam mattresses, they are an alternative. But, they are not a cure-all for what ails us. I found my back and hip pain to be greatly alleviated by my latex mattress (which is pretty firm). But, I still have lower back arthritis, and I still get pinched nerves with pain radiating down my leg. My mattress can't fix those problems. They are medical problems. I think what we should be looking for is something that won't aggravate our pain-related medical issues, and something that may ameliorate pain. But a mattress is not a cure. Sad but true. |
I feel the same frustration and have for years, as you probably know, Leo. I occasionally get a configuration that works for a short while but never for more than a few weeks at best. I cannot figure it out but I suspect it may have something to do with just being older and having my back or shoulders "go out" on me. But then, I go on a trip and sleep on someone else's mattress and I find it VERY comfortable and want to buy that mattress! But I suspect it too would not be the answer. (I'm still trying to get further info on that mattress I slept on at my sister's house but she's dragging her feet. You'd think I was asking her to run to the top of a mountain or something; all she has to do is have one of her grandkids help her lift one end and look at the dang label! Argggh!) I had two great nights on my Sensus foam and then it started hurting and by the 4th night I had to change the configuration. I do want to add here, that latex alone (or any foam alone) without springs is not always going to work for everyone. Some people like myself tried for 2 years to make pure foam work and finally realize they need springs under them. So if you feel the latex is killing you, join the club, it killed me too. But now I use it over springs and it's okay, even if at times it still bothers me especially if I have it as a top layer. But then again, just as "full disclosure", I also cannot find a "perfect" foam-over-springs configuration. But in general it has been better for me than foam alone. |
