Hello, I first joined this forum a couple of years ago. I posted about my Spring Air all latex mattress that collapsed, because they lied and it had about 3 inches of cheap PU foam in between the layers of latex. In the past two years I have been through 7 mattresses. All but 2 have been defective.Tomorrow I am about to receive my 8th. This is my 3rd Simmons beautyrest in a little over a year. The last two have been double layered coil and the top layer slid off. I am limited in what I can exchange for, so I opted for a different type of Beautyrest World Class. This one has only a single layer of coils. I am at my wits end. I hope this one lasts. My husband and I settled on this type of coil system because it offers me the same type of support that latex does. He could not stand the feel of the latex under him, but I need some pressure point relief. The moral of this story is, no matter how nice your salesman is (and this store has been terrific) the manufaturers are producing cheap crap and they know it. To charge the ridiculous prices for these beds is a crime (or should be). I appreciate this forum so much. You all have been helpful and have given me so much to think about. I have learned alot. Our next bed will be two seperate mattresses, and neither of them will be a major "S brand". I only hope I can get at least a few good years out of this one before I need to go that route. Tempurpedic was our first try. No defects, but after almost 2 weeks of migraines and vomiting, I called and had it taken away. I found out that about 10% of these mattresses are returned for this sensitivity and the company knows this.That is why they were willing to take it away without the 30 day trial. It is very tough to find a mattress without memory foam in it these days. After the Tempur we tried the chepo Bob's Discount Furniture latex. Two vdifferent models, both extremely uncomfortable. They were terrific about exchanges and refunds. I did get some nice fmily room furniture from them. Then on to the Spring Air "all latex" nightmare. That was mattress number 4 and it lasted about 2 months before collapsing. The manufacturer print out neglected to mention the 3" of convoluted PU foam in between the 2 layers of latex. The furniture store gave me an exchange no questions asked. They also got rid of that brand, which has since gone bankrupt and been taken over as "Aviaro". the service manager told me almost every one of the Spring Air latex beds they sold, was returned within a short time. Then the Beautyrest coil on coil. Very comfortable, but the top layer of coils slid off in two weeks. We figured, okay give this another shot since it is comfortable to both of us. Less than a year later, the second Beautyrest Exceptionale has the top layer of coils sliding off. Today I get my replacement. A firm Beautyrest World class with single layer coils. This will get a 2' latex topper on my side only. I am really praying that this is the one. I need to get a couple of years out of this bed, then we can spend some more money and get what we think will be the answer for us both. It has certainly been a learning experience. I must say, I really do not want to shop for a mattress again. It is a full time job. |

| Got my replacement Beautyrest today. I am NOT holding out high hopes for this mattress. It even looks cheaply made. I once read that the beds on the storeroom floor are made to a higher quality for sales purposes. I am starting to believe it. |

I read this once, too. I believe someone on this forum once said they worked for a mattress store and it was the case that the floor models were built differently/better. If so, there's a good case for buying the floor model :) It's a shame the mattress companies have all gone this way, replacing quality with cheap materials. When I stripped my 15 year old mattress in preparation for getting the new Flobed, I took a moment to read the label on my old Simmons. It was called a "Lincoln Luxury" and at the time it was a pocketed coil mattress with WOOL padding . . . not foam. I had several people tell me it was the most comfortable mattress they'd ever slept in, and over 15 years it was a dream. It really was only in the last 2 years or so the mattress just wore out. And, 15 years ago, it cost us all of $800 . . . for the mattress and foundation set. If we could have purchased another "Lincoln Luxury" we would have! I hope this next mattress works out. Let us know! If it doesn't, and if a latex or Tempurpedic mattress just isn't in the cards for you, you might want to look into one of the firms that still builds mattresses to quality standards. I bought my first latex bed from Custom Comfort, an independent mattress company. Although I returned the latex bed in favor of a Flobed, this in no way reflects on the company or the quality of the mattresses. They build everything the way mattresses are supposed to be built, with quality coils and COTTON and WOOL padding, no PU foam. Some models have latex or memory foam on top, but not all models. There's a movie on their website that shows exactly how thier mattresses are constructed and what goes into them. www.customcomfort.com. The prices are about the same as for the "S" brands. There's another company out there that builds mattresses the right way . . . Icame across it while doing my research . ..but I just can't remember the name. Thanks Kim. Just as an aside, I know that Simmons is in the middle of a bankruptcy. So now, they are not even putting the Simmons Beautyrest medalion on the end sof their beds anymore. Pretty sad, they are ready to just walk away and not be responsible for the product. The law tags and info tags all state the Simmons name, but no more are they declaring themselves loud and clear on the end of the bed. This mattress was manufatured in the Agawam Ma. facility on Oct. 21, 2009. I think the fact that they will not happily declare their own product for all to seesays alot about the company. |

I, too, wish you the best with your new mattress. We are liking our Savvy Rest latex (dunlop) but almost went with all cotton Royal Pedic or all cotton Charles Beckly (or is it Beckley?) Sounds like your hubby needs one of the above to get that ultra firm feel he wants. (my hubby almost the same thing) If you get one of those, you can always put a nice layer of talalay or dunlop on your side of the bed. Yes it will be lopsided, but then both of you will be happy!
