My husband and I are trying to extend the life of a VERY firm queen innerspring mattress.  The mattress and box spring are old in years but still seem to be in fairly good shape, as it's only used 3 months of the year (summertime) in a 2nd house.  No sagging has started but the quilted layers have compressed on top and bottom (it's flippable.) We moved it from my parents room downstairs into our bedroom 11 years ago, and it was probably 3 years old then.  We put on a memory foam topper a few years ago and I haven't slept well on the bed since then.  Too hot and not comfortable or soft enough.  I am a 5'6", 140 lb. side and back sleeper (who on occasion flips to stomach but mostly is on side) and runs hot.  Hubby is 6'0", 175 lb. stomach sleeper who says he can sleep on anything. Given this is not our primary bed, we have been waffling on replacing it (which feels like a big ugh! on figuring out what to buy) or trying a latex mattress topper to extend that decision for a few years.  Have looked into the option of buying a Celsion latex topper with the terry cloth cover and was wondering if 2" of ILD 15 is enough to soften it for me while still providing comfort for him as a stomach sleeper.  Any thoughts?  It would still bring it to about $525 (at SLAB) for just the topper but I thought if it was comfortable, we could still use the topper on a different mattress should we decide to replace what we have in a few years.  Would that 2" Celsion topper make much of a difference on our older, firm mattress?  Also looked at Sleepy's at the Pure Latex Bliss 2" and 3" topper, which is already encased in a cover, but wasn't sure if I would find it hot and they don't have a comfort return policy on the toppers.

If it's not, you can always add something slightly firmer between the soft topper and the mattress, or add another inch of the same.  I think you'll be very happy with it though.  It will certainly make a great difference.  When we went to stay at our friends cottage last week, I took a 2 inch topper (28) because I know their beds are uncomfortable for me.  I still felt the bed beneath it, but it was much better on my pressure points.  I slept very well.  I don't think you can go wrong in starting with two inches or so of any ild above 19, and below 28.  Best wishes.
