first, my stats: female, 5' 10" and my weight stays between 135-140. I am primarily a side sleeper but I also sometimes stomach and back sleep. I told Dave that I liked the idea of soft in the shoulder area (Vzone) but I definitely want firm in the him area. so he suggested medium vzone over medium over firm. So here's my question: If I place a firm zone in the hip region but that sits on top of a medium core, is that going to offer enough support? It seems most people here get at least med/firm/xfirm (which is what he recommended for my husband's side), so I am concerned about med/med/firm being to soft. I expressly indicated that I don't want to sink in too much (except at the shoulder area when I side sleep).
What happens when you place a firmer core over a softer core? I mean doesn't the softer core just get squished then and lose functionality? What do you guys think? |
Based on my experience plus what I've read here, if you like a firm mattress as a rule I would recommend taking it up a notch to start with. I think Dave tends to recommend a bit on the soft side. Yes, you can exchange the layers, but it's a pain if you're far out of range and you have to exchange up multiple times to get the firmness you want. I can't imagine you could possibly go softer than M/M/F. But if you start with M/F/XF you can go up or down, depending. FWIW I'm a 5'4" 130 lbs side sleeper, currently on a firm vzone that is M at the shoulder and XF at the hip, and this is over F/XF. My husband is on XF/XF/SF and except for being too firm in the shoulders his side actually feels pretty good to me, though he still thinks it is too soft. Linda |
Linda, that is helpful information for me o know....I am thinking of asking for the firm Vzone since we were going to bump up the firmness in the hip area anyways, and then I will still have a medium zone down at the feet if I need softer in the hips I can swap it. So now I'm not sure if I should get firm vzone over firm over x firm or firm vzone over medium over firm. Again, does anyone know what the consequence of a firm hip area on top of a medium core is functionally? I'm just thinking here that if I want medium, it should be in the top layer, not the middle layer. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks again. I think I am getting close here. |
