Just received my Sleep EZ 10,000

I just received and finished assembling my Sleep EZ 10,000. We ordered it in blended talalay, Soft, Medium, Firm, split layers. Tonight will be the first night we sleep on it, and so far it feels good, but I just thought I'd share a few things I've noticed already. The mattress cover seems really nice. The top is heavy duty. As for fit, it's very tight around the sides, so I had to squish the corners of the foam to get the cover on, but it's in there. The one thing that stands out to me so far, and which I don't really like, is the split pieces of foam are VERY different from each other - meaning the two halves of each layer are quite obviously not from the same piece of foam. The holes are different sizes, different spacing, different amounts, etc. One medium layer has large holes whereas the other layer has small holes. One firm layer has many more holes than the other, and one soft layer has different holes than the other and is quite noticeably firmer than the other. I was hoping the bed would feel the same on both sides once all together, but it doesn't. My wife even noticed the one side being firmer when she tried out the bed, without me saying anything to her. So, we're looking forward to trying it, but somewhat annoyed that the foam layer halves are so different. Will report back. |

| Do they mark the latex ends with numbers or sizes? You could call or email Sleep EZ. I know how disappointing it is to get products and not be what you are expecting it to be. |

Most of my FloBed Talalay Latex cores are marked with firmness ILD numbers and names and test results of each part of the latex and the average ILD of each latex core along with information if it is a natural Talalay Latex from Latex International or Talatech Latex from Latex International. Two of my latex cores are the blended latex since the natural latex did not come in ILDs as firm as the 44 ILD and the 46 ILD latex cores I have. The rest of my 6 latex cores are the natural Talalay Latex. Amazingly I was not allergic to the blended latex. The blended latex cores are 2.8" thick while the natural latex cores are 3" thick. Two newer cores just say 37 ILD on them and are wonderful and firmer than my 36 ILD latex core. My holes are consistent on my latex cores. This message was modified Feb 15, 2009 by Lynn2006

It's possible the guys in the cutting room screwed up your order. You should call Shawn and run this by him. Just curious... did you order Dunlop? With Talalay the holes from the same manufacturer are usually the same size regardless of the ILD, there's just more air in the softer foams. With Dunlop the air to rubber ratio is the same regardless of the ILD. They make is softer by increasing the size of the holes. If you ordered Dunlop try reversing the cores. In the Dunlop process sediment sinks to the bottom of the mold so one side of the core actually feels firmer than the other. Try it and see if it makes any difference. But I'd still call Shawn. I ordered all Talalay, and the holes are seriously several different sizes and amounts. |

I figured pictures work better than words, so here are some pics of the different layers of my mattress. Top layer, Soft (left and right). Very different looks. The right side feels softer:  Detail of the right side:  Back of the top/Soft layer. The two sides look different on the back as well:  Middle/Medium layer (left and right). Again, very different look and the right side feels a little softer:  Medium right side detail:  Bottom Firm layer. Slightly different looking left and right sides. Feel is about the same.  Since I have a Cal King bed, there's a 4" spliced section on the end of each layer to make the length correct. Almost all of them use foam which looks and feels different. I don't mind the splice, but I do mind the foam being different.  That's it for the pictures. I can't help but feel bothered by the inconsistencies throughout. I just spoke with Shaun and he mentioned that the different pieces of foam will not be identical in look and feel since they come from different mold machines and are from different pours. I guess I just wasn't expecting them to look this different, or to feel different. We were cut off so I'm going to call him again tomorrow. I'm curious what you guys think about this. That is strange. But I only have my Brylane home Dunlop latex and my 3 latex Talalay pillows to compare from. My one Talaly pillow has different size holes because it is zoned. My Brylane latex does have smaller holes on the ends. I would send those pictures to Shawn. I would hate to ship them back. See if they are at all comfortable. Takes pics of the numbers on the ends too. Good luck. |

| I would ask who the manufacturer of the Talalay Latex is. All my natural Talalay Latex Pillows have about the same size holes and I have not noticed this in my latex cores but the back of the latex cores is not silky smooth like the top but two X-Firms have about the same size holes that I got from FloBeds. Maybe SleepEZ has an explanation. I do know that on the side of my latex cores gives the average ILD and some are more or less than others so I requested those that are are the firmer side. |

| I always thought their site was pretty clear that they used multiple different latex manufacturers to source their latex. I think this type of mismatch would be a possibility. However, it would be best to keep at least one manufacturer's latex on each bed. I do feel that there is definitely a possibility that one manufacturer's medium would feel different than another manufacturer's medium. |

I had a SleepEZ Talalay mattress with soft / medium / firm and Xtra-Firm cores. All of them had the same size holes. I was told by Shawn that they were made by LI. But it does make sense that if you received cores from different manufacturers the molds would be different too. Also, there's an ILD range within each designation, and some of your cores could be slightly firmer or softer depending on where it falls within that range. I would recommend that anyone ordering from SleepEZ request that split cores of the same designation come from the same manufacturer. That way they should be more consistent. |
