Latex Cover?

I just purchased a 3 inch latex topper to add to my 8 inch latex mattress.   The original mattress is sealed in a nice wool/cotton cover but my topper is loose over this mattress.    I covered the latex topper with an old fitted  sheet, then a stretch cotton/polyester mattress pad, then the fitted bottom sheet.   I chose to order the topper without a cover to avoid the "slip" factor.   The latex sits on a non slip mat on top of the original mattress and so far has not moved at all.

My question is---is this setup the best I can do or is there another suggestion?  I hate wasting the nice wool/cotton cover on my original mattress but it is not removable.  Would I gain anything by buying another cover to surround the entire 11 inches of latex in one unit?

Thanks for any replies.

I would consider buying an allergy-proof (dust mite proof) mattress cover to surround the whole thing.

Otherwise, I don't think it really matters. The latex might last a little longer if it was enveloped completely but I've never worried about covering mine, we just put an extra sheet on top of ours.

The real question you should be asking is "Am I comfortable on my present configuration?"

When we get into the game of "Yes I am comfortable.....but could I be more comfortable?" We open our selves up to a continual quagmire of never ending changing of layers. At least that is my opinion based on my limited hundred days of experience.

I know that question keeps plaguing me even today, although I am comfortable at least 85% of the time. Trying to satisfy that elusive, ever-changing, 15% can become, expensive, exasperating, very perplexing, and in the end, I believe, self-defeating.

The reason I say this is, our bodies change a little bit every day depending on what we have experienced that day. The older we get the more we feel this. Therefore a perfect nights sleep 100% of the time is a very elusive target. It is always easy to blame our mattresses. Who ever heard of the mattress defending itself against our complaints?

But I still wonder!

Jim, good suggestion,   I'll look into it when I feel like spending any more money on this bed...haha.

Eagle, excellent point!   I agree totally about not seeking the elusive 100% satisfaction, but I was asking more of a physical cover question than a comfort question.  So far, after 4 nights on my medium 100% natural latex topper I am very satisfied with the comfort.  Time will tell if my back starts hurting or something else unexpected happens, but so far so good.    But, I know that covers and pads can sometimes also effect the comfort level, so I guess we have to be careful.
