I'de like to make my latex mattress purchase from Sleepez asap, but am going back and forth with the firmness selection. Both are talalay latex.My two choices are s/xf/xf which is about 3" of 24 ILD on top of 6" of 44 ILD. The other choice is s/f/xf, which is about 3" of 24 ILD on 3" of 38-40ILD on 44 ILD. I am 6.1, 190 lbs and sleep on my side and back. I want a firm supporting mattress with some cushion on top. Any thoughts, thanks. This message was modified Aug 25, 2010 by Mike22

I am wondering why those are your only choices. I am close to 6" tall, weigh >250 lbs., I have three layers of 36 ILD latex, and I find this to be very firm. Then I have a 2" convoluted topper over those three layers. Personally I would go with M/F/F which in Sleepez terms is 32/38/38 ish. My husband, who weighs 180 and sleeps in every position, has this on his side of the bed, and it's firm and supportive. I think 3" inches of 24 ILD will be too soft, and I can't even imagine sleeping comfortably on 44 ILD. |

I agree on the 3" of soft latex, but I am kind of limited with Sleepez as they do not offer a 2" topper that will fit in their mattress cover. I originally was thinking those firmness selections because I was able to test out some latex mattresses made by Prana that had similar ILD layers. Also made by Latex International. Both had 6" of 44 ILD with 2" of 14 ILD, but differed in how the latex air holes were situated and how the stitching was set up. I was surprised by how different they felt. One was a plush and the other was a plush firm. I really wish Sleepez had a store near by where I could try them out. Seems like a big guessing game to me. If what they recommend doesn't work for me then sure I get a refund, but I would have to pay shipping charges. How do they know what is right for me. Problem is they don't. Well, all of us who purchased latex mattresses this way have gone through the debate about what firmness will work for us. I did a layer exchange on my Flobed, and Sleepez will let you do one too. See if they will offer you more than one layer exchange if you need it - and get it in writing. I started out with 32/36/36, and while it felt wonderful to lie down on, it was too soft for a full night's sleep. So I switched out the 32 for another 36, and it's perfect. I know others have done multiple layer exchanges, and rather than view this as an expense and inconvenience, recognize it for what it is - one of the few real choices you have to fully test out your mattress and get it right before you're irrevocably committed to a $2k purchase. I still think you will find the top layer too soft and recommend a 32 ILD for that. But if you want, try the other 2 at 44 and if it works, fine. If it's too firm, you can always switch one or both of them out for a little softer. |
| Very true. I still believe that what I am looking at is the best option for me otherwise I wouldn't be looking at it so seriously. It would just make things 100% easier to actually lay on them before hand. I've even contemplated traveling to their store, but don't know how practical that is. With the Sleepez it does not have a topper over the soft layer like the Flobeds does so I am just accounting for that. If I uderstand correctly you have 36/36/36 ILD now, but do you also have a topper? Not sure which brand you have. Thanks. |

Frankly, I think it depends on who you talk to over there. One person recommended I get XF/F/M or F/F/M while another recommended F/M/S. I went against my better judgement and went with the second person's recommendation and I needed to do a layer exchange (it only cost me $30 in shipping). I'm now at F/F/M with a 1 inch soft topper and I think it's fine. (I'm 5'10" and about 180, but was a bit heavier when I got the bed). The 3" soft topper was just not supportive enough, and I woke several times during the night in pain. |
| I have a Flobeds mattress, so there is a 2" soft convoluted topper over the three 36 ILD layers. I did purchase a Sleepez mattress for my daughter, and hers is s/m/f (iirc) and it has a lovely bouncy feel that would be way too unsupportive for me . . . but she is fine with it. |
