Latex matress from ikea
latex matress from ikea, engenes, medium does a latex matress stay medium for good or will it over months become soft and fatten out? in that case should i get the firm model.? |
Re: Latex matress from ikea
I'm no latex expert, but I've read enough and had a little experience so I can concur with what eagle2 said. All latex - imho - will soften a little over time. But to go firm vs. medium, that's a big difference, so what you want is to choose the right one for now. I wouldn't choose firm thinking it's going to turn into a medium, if it's good quality latex. I doubt it will "flatten out", it will get maybe 2-10% softer over time, would be my guess, depending on amount of body weight and quality and ILD of latex. As I recall, last time I looked, IKEA does not give ILD's of their latex. You might try contacting their mattress buyer via phone and see if he can tell you where/how the latex is made and what ILD is Medium and Firm. |
Re: Latex matress from ikea
I agree with Jim regarding the latex softening. Keep in mind that both Jim and I are being very subjective about this softening business. We have no way of being "even slightly scientific" regarding this subject. My guess is that Jim is fairly accurate. 2 to 10% is probably in the ballpark. Keep in mind that a medium piece of 100% natural botanically grown latex, in medium firmness, is between 26 and 30 ILD. Since Latex International tries to grade their latex in the middle of that range that would make it approximately 28 ILD. So a 2% softening would give you a piece of latex with an ILD of 27.44. Not very much. This softening that I think I'm feeling is probably more in line with 3 or 4%. Let's put it this way, it's just enough so that you can tell that there's been a change. I likened this softening in another thread, about this subject, to owning a good pair of leather gloves or shoes. A top quality pair of gloves or shoes made of leather will conform to the persons shape in a fairly short period of time, becoming more comfortable. This is how I would liken the experience of top quality latex conforming to the sleepers body. Frankly, I rather like it. |
