Lots of information still very confused

I realize that choosing a mattress is a matter of personal choice, like so many other things, but I am looking for just a little guidance.  I want a comfortable bed. I need a firm bed.  I can't afford to spend "porche" or "BMW" money on a bed.

Temperpedic supposedly sleep hot, that's not an option for me, cause I sleep hot and since I am approaching the age range for menopause I don't really need to be any hotter.

I have heard about Latex and understand it sleeps cooler.  I have been to Sleepy's and laid on the Dr. Breus bed.  I've read some of the comments here so I have to ask the question.

What other latex beds are out there to look at?  And while I'm at it more questions,  Besides the standard names we hear does anyone in the Mid-Atlantic region have a bed that they think is total awesome? and is there a reason to choose latex over standard mattress or is it just the wave if the future?

Also Sleep number is out because they have got to do something to get that piece of wood from between the sides, (I don't know how they do that commercial with a straight face, couples sleeping in the same bed, but I digress) anyway I do have to say this one thing, the air mattress thing is not a bad idea, I got a good night sleep one weekend on one of those aero-beds.  Then again those adjustable beds sleep well too.

the current bed I have I got from Mattress discounters.  It is not a bad mattress, we are just moving from a queen to a king bed and thought it would be the best opportunity to get a better mattress.

A few recommendations would be nice, something firm but with some plushness (a girl likes to snuggle sometimes),  My husband is already getting annoyed laying on mattresses.
