I'm close to getting a memory foam bed from foambymail. I've been back and forth over the base.
I'm 5'11" and weigh 195lbs.
I prefer medium (in firmness) mattresses.
I'm a back sleeper.

My current favorite is 5" HD36-HQ+4" 5lb memory foam.
Will this be too soft ? Should I go for the LUX-HQ base ?
Some people have said that the LUX base is too hard.

Also, Connie said that the memory foam would be glued to the base
and that I did not have the option of having them being not
glued, somthing about shipping.

I'm a fan of the Lux-HQ.  I'm a happy owner of a 5" block of it.  I think it makes for a very solid foundation to place over box springs or wood slats.  Of course we have it softened up with 2" of HD35-HQ and 3" worth of latex, plus a very plush mattress pad.  You don't have to order it glued if you don't want... just use this link instead http://www.foamdistributing.com/products/lux-hqM.html it looks like Full and Queen aren't options there... you could always make your own cuts.  I'd try to avoid having it glued, it just restricts your options later.  The name of the game in this foam bed stuff is flexibility and reconfigurability.

I also agree with the other poster that 4" of memo foam is probably too much.  That memory foam is soft stuff!  At least, all of it that I've been exposed to.

Good luck, let us know what you do and how you like it after a few weeks!

Thanks !
I'm gonna stick with my 5+4 config now, I've been all over the place with Lux-hq, HD36-hq, 3 inch topper, 4 inch topper
I prefer a bit soft mattress. I looked over in the fatwallet thread and there people seemed fine with 4" toppers.

I tried to have the pads not be glued together, but Connie said no; that they glued it together
to prevent the foam from tearing.
As far as ordering the pads separately, I was going to do that, but I got tempted by the ebay cashback
thing. In the end I should be getting the HQ base with 5lb topper + cover + 2 pillows for 370; it would have cost
~470 if I had ordered the 5" base, 3" topper + cover (another $50 if 4" topper).
Hope it works out !!

Split the 4" topper into 1 2" and 2 1" toppers so that you can experiment and get the perfect match for you.

Personally, I would go with the lux espessially if you are going with the full 4" of memory foam. If you go with 2", a 2"  layer of hd36 might be better, with the rest  being lux underneath. Again, I would split the foundation with 3" lux and 2 peices of 1" of the hd36.  Once you get the right combination, you can order extra foam to get to the right height.

Hi,

I would like to know what is the difference between between the Lux HQ and the HD36 High Quality .... It appears to me that it is simply the ILD rating ... with is 45-55 for the Lux HQ and it apparently will last 16 years instead of the HD36 HQ which is an ILD rating of 32-38 and it has a smaller shelf life ...

Is that right?

I believe ILD ratings are not related to lifetime, and that both LUX-HQ and HD36-HQ should have similar lifetime.

No, the HQ is more dense (weighs more) and will last longer.

Both Lux-HQ and HD36-HQ have the same density.
Lux-R and HD36-R have a lower density and a smaller life
