Just my luck...We just laid out a small fortune for a Stearn's & Foster Mulberry Green (non pillowtop) at Sears and NOW I find this forum. (sigh)

I have no idea if we made the right choice but my wife had to have this particular mattress and man was it expensive. I did read somewhere's to BEWARE OF PILLOWTOPS, so I hope that was at least one good money-saving decision I did make successfully.

Sears tells us we have 30 days to return this if it doesnt' "work" for us, but I do believe there is some fee to return.

Consensus on S&F......Should I return and go another route for my monies worth in a better mattress? Any advice from this point on ? I'm all ears.

I would cut your losses and return it while you can get something back.

There are many other directions you could go.  Many of the folks here like latex and some like memory foam.  Very few come from Sears or S&F.

Here is one of the threads for one of the most researched mattresses I've seen on this forum in the last year:  http://www.whatsthebest-mattress.com/forum/my-mattress-arrived/15666-A-1.html

The thread has a wealth of info in it that I agree with.

Since you have 30 days to try out the bed and returning it now or in a few weeks will not make much of a difference, I would try out the bed for 3 weeks and then make a decision. If it is too firm or too soft, if you need a soft latex topper or if you want to return it and try a latex kit with split cores so you and your wife can each adjust your individual sides of the bed to fit your comfort level. Their is a topper that goes over the split cores so you don't realize they are split.

Thank you Lynn,

that's a great suggestion. I've been reading the Topper threads here and I think your suggestion is already answering my next question about I have about toppers.....Do I buy 2 twins or one big king?

I'm looking at the SLAB.com site because of other's recommendations.

We also are in need of a frame.....Hopefully I can pick one up off the shelf at JC Penny or another local store?

Thanks

I would buy 2 twins since you and your wife may have different requirements for comfort.  They are also easier to move around and return if necessary.  I know it is probably a little more expensive, but it allows more flexibility.  You can even experiment easier with another layer of latex (by doubling up on one side) if necessary to achieve the right comfort level.  Also, something to keep in mind is that many mattresses deteriorate after the 30 or 60 day "warranty" period so it becomes too late to return.  Ours took about 6 to 9 months before it was obvious that the mattress was not going to last.  As many on this forum will attest, my mattress was not a pillow top either, but the contents (poly foam, etc.) will probably start sagging after a relatively short life.  Unless your S&F mattress is just springs with a cover, it will probably have some type of foam.  If it's not what you want (latex or whatever), then I would return it quickly and not wait.  I wish I knew that before buying it.  It would have saved me about $1500 for a Simmons Beautyrest.  I learned my lesson the hard way.  Toppers are great once you have a good base but if you have sagging 8 months from now, you can't fix it with a topper.
