My new Flobed

I got my new Flobed yesterday, and unpackaged and assembled it in about an hour. I'll post a few initial impressions of it so far:

1. The encasement is extremely nice. Definitely high quality stitching, nice cotton, and good amount of wool. Only possible concern is that it comes with a nylon zipper. Zipper appears to be heavy duty, but I have my reservations about it not being metal. Overall, though the encasement exceeds my expectations.

2. Natural Talalay definitely has an odor. I'm not hypersensitive to smells, but this is quite noticeable. I'm sure it will dissipate within a few days. I may unzip the cover and run a fan across the latex on Saturday if the smell hasn't subsided by then.

3. Natural Talalay is heavy.

4. I slept well on it last night and had a good sleep. My side seems firmer than I'm used to (firm/x-firm/s-firm), but I had no trouble falling asleep, and slept through the night. I will hold off judgement on overall comfort until I've slept on it for at least two weeks. My wife loves her side (med/firm/x-firm), which is half the battle.

I will post more after a couple of weeks.

I forgot what I have but I have a soft topper over an XFirm, over an XFirm over a Super Firm queen split latex cores (I kept both sides the same) and I love my bed and I love her firm it is with a little give. I initially went much softer but it hurt my back.  I am not quite 5 feet and around 100 lbs so maybe I don't sink in enough to feel the bed being too firm. I always loved very firm beds.  I sleep on a latex pillow as I have all of my life but never had a latex bed until May 2007.  I have all 100% natural Talalay Latex except for the bottom core which is a blended Super Firm since it did not come in 100% natural Talalay Latex in 2007.

I think the pillow is part of the comfort of the bed.

I also have the latex over the pine slat box sold by FloBeds.

After a week of sleeping on the med/firm/s-firm configuration, I'm starting to really love this bed. I did some very physical work yesterday which had my lower back starting to ache before bedtime. I figured this would be a good test to see if this configuration is going to be firm enough for me. I slept right through the night, and my back felt great this morning. So far, so good. I know that one week is not enough time, and I don't want to jinx it, but things are definitely looking better for this bed staying. Also, I'd like to reiterate how 'cool' this bed feels. It does not sleep warm at all.

Here is the Flobeds chart:  http://www.flobeds.com/mattspec.htm

so I think the ILD's are 28/32/44 if I got that right.  Keep in mind his size and weight might be different than yours.  Flobeds also have a 2 inch convoluted soft topper on them which is probably 19 to 22 ILD.

BTW, Flobeds does have a sale on these days for anyone interested.

Update time.

I can now say I love my flobed. I'm still not 100% sure whether I sleep better on med/x-firm/s-firm, or on med/firm/s-firm. What I can say is that I can definitely tell a difference between the two configurations, which surprises me a bit.

I must say that I've never found it so easy to fall asleep. I believe this is because this bed sleeps cool. I've read several articles which mention that part of falling asleep is having the body cool down. I know I always sleep better when it is cool.  In this bed I fall asleep extremely fast.

I have until mid-May to decide which core I want to switch out, but luckily I should only need to swap one.

My wife and I are now very pleased with our new bed.

Magalops, I am glad you also love your FloBeds like I do.  I find it so comfortable and I know longer move around all night trying to get off my pressure points since I need a very firm bed. The little bit of give is perfect for me.  I a glad you only have to exchange one latex core.  Please keep us updated.

I'm really interested by this bed.  Does it have any of the heat issues Tempurpedic has?  Otherwise the pricing seems right and the reviews look very positive.

I got a Flobed 6 weeks ago and love it. It was the replacement for a Serta pillowtop that was horrible. Started great but within 6 months was really showing the wear - big depressions where we slept. $1100 on a mattress that was worthless in under 4 years was not a mistake I wanted to repeat. That's when I first learned about latex and then about Flobeds. The ordering process is easy enough and everything ships in cardboard boxes. I put it together in under an hour. Here's a time lapse video of the process: http://youtu.be/zDSKmK3q2co

Better than just latex, a Flobed allows me to tune each side to match the sleeper - and to keep doing it as needed if needed.

If definitely feels different from the innersprung mattresses we alway had. Not bouncy at all but so comfortable.

We went with the Posture Select on the Pine Slat Foundation. It's excellent.

Update time. It's now been 4.5 months, and we can definitely say we love our bed. It took a little getting used to coming off a soft-sided waterbed, but I can now say I sleep much better on this bed. We fall asleep much faster on this bed and rarely wake up from tossing or turning. Our allergies have also subsided quite a bit, although I'm sure this has more to do with removing the carpet from the room.

The best thing I can say is that we haven't even thought about the mattress for the past 2 months. The bed just performs. We wake up feeling relaxed with no pain or soreness. The only reason I remembered to come back and post an update here is because of seeing a mattress ad on TV. Definitely a great purchase!

We also completely love our sheet sets and our Hudson Bay wool blanket too. Thank you to all who post here on this forum. You've helped me to make a wise decision!

If you wouldn't mind, it would be helpful to me to know what position you find yourselves sleeping in on this mattress and/or your weights.

Right now, I'm just doing our guest "bed", but eventually I intend to replace our own mattress.
