hi there,

we are set on purchasing two, XL twin adjustable bases (probably the P&L S-cape) and are looking for a good coil mattress. not interested in the pillow top since we plan to purchase a 3" latex topper for comfort -and using it in the sleep like a bear bamboo quilted cover. i was looking at the sleep to live brand which i found quite comfortable, but not sure if they offer them in a non plush version. i suffer from lower back pain -but sleeping with head and legs slightly elevated solves this problem. i prefer a softer support while dh requires a tighter, firmer level of support.

any advice at all is greatly appreciated!

Check with retailer, but I believe pretty much all the Simmons mattresses are fine on adjustable bases.  I've been told most S brand coil spring mattresses are fine on adjustables.  You'd want to avoid any old school coil mattresses that have border rods in the mattress.

Simmons have individual coils and should do fine on adjustable.  I've seen a Stearns and Foster which has individual coils on an adjustable base, but there's a lot of heft in the mattress, so it doesn't conform really well to the adjustable base.  To be safe, it would seem smart to test the mattress on adjustable in the store.

Foam mattresses will conform to adjustables.  But I didn't like the feel of my all latex mattress on adjustable.  On box spring, it was springy.  On solid top adjustable, it felt much deader.
