I've been reading these forums for the past few days and I'm intrigued by the idea of a latex mattress, but I'm hung up on the cost and fear of it all going wrong like my current mattress. I'll just start with a couple of questions.
1) I am currently using a 3" Therapedic Memory Foam topper that I just bought from Bed Bath and Beyond on top of a futon. It seems to help, but it seems awfully mushy and is rather hot. I'd like to return it and try a latex topper instead but I have no idea if I should get a soft, medium or firm one. Does anyone have any idea what ILD the Therapedic Memory Foam topper would be considered so I have something to compare it to?
2) I'd love to try an all latex bed, but they are so expensive! Especially since I already paid $1k for my (crappy) mattress only a year ago. From what I've read it seems you can get the individual 3" layers for only $300 each (queen size) - so why are places like flobeds selling three layers of 3" for over $2k? I know they've got a great return policy, but you can return the layers to the factory direct places, too. Why doesn't everyone on this board just buy the pieces from the factory direct places? (I'm not trying to troll here, I'm just trying to figure out what I should do.)
Thanks.

Hi tiredmom, In regards to question 2, I would recommend you call FloBeds directly and ask them on the phone exactly what you have posted as your question 2. I'm sure they will be quite open to receiving your question, and they will give you an informed and honest response to it. I think, based on my experience with them, that if you can get a better deal from somewhere else for an equivalent product, they might even encourage you to go that route instead of buying from them. They certainly won't pressure you to buy a FloBed when you call, so there is nothing to lose by trying a call to them with that question. The thing to keep in mind is, maybe there is a difference in the factory direct products that you are not aware of, but which the experts at FloBeds would be. That's why you should put your question to FloBeds directly so they can give you their educated opinions about it. And if you don't like what they tell you on the phone, you are still free to go with your original plan. This message was modified Jul 10, 2010 by confusedbedbuyer
