Questions about mattresses

Hi All,

I found this website from it's sister website "what's the best hot tub" and have some questions.

We have a Simmons mattress that's about 11 years old and we believe that it's time to replace it. We went shopping today and found a Simmons "Hamlet" that is sold by the Sleepys chain that we thought was comfortable and are considering purchasing. We also looked at Sealy and Serta but liked the Simmons better. The Simmons that we like is from the Beauty Rest line vs "world class" but has a viscus foam layer that seems to be an option at this level. The comfort level is a plush firm. We don't like the Tempur-pedic mattresses but I'm thinking a little memory foam may make the bed more comfortable.

We did bring some pricing from the internet with us but it seams (which I was prepared for) that cross referencing is a little difficult for the general public and for the stores as well. I tried to compare the "Hamlet" to another Simmons that I found on the internet but it is a "world class" version and of course it couldn't be matched up.

Reading the few reviews here on all three manufactures it seems like these are not good companies. We are on a budget so a "price is no object" mattress is out of the question for us.

Is Simmons a good manufacturer? With all the bad reviews on beds that I see (and some good ones as well) - what does a consumer do? Buying on-line is out of the question as we really want to feel how the bed feels. Are people really picky about their mattresses and I am not?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Vinny

Is this the bed?

It's similar except the Hamlet has visco foam.

I think it's similar to this: http://www.sleepys.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product1_10602_-1_10312_10551   Of course Sleepys doesn't have the model we saw on line.

After asking the first question it seems that visco foam may break down fast.. Who Knows? My Simmons mattress has nothing in it besides what was standard back then, is 11 years old, has indents where we sleep (has had them for years) and we bought it super firm back then. We were looking for a bigger bed as we are going into a king size vs queen and was looking for a little more cushion this time around. We like the fact that the bed isn't bouncy when someone moves and this still impressed us with looking at the new mattresses

It would be nice to buy from a small company but I would think that it is hit or miss with them as well.

Any other thoughts.

Thanks!
