My wife and I have been shopping for a new mattress set and saw that Big Lots has the Serta Perfect Sleeper Hamilton Park queen super pillow top mattress and boxspring for $649. I went over to a local furniture store that advertises their prices are below other stores sales prices, and asked the salesperson to show me the equivalent they sold. The one they found that matched was a $999 Vera Wang super pillow top. The Hamilton Park has all the big features like 800 coil count, advanced continuous support innerspring, total foam edge encasement, temperature sensitive memory foam, and convoluted comfort foams. ( http://www.biglots.com/images/pdf/serta_mattress_20110226_comparison_chart.pdf ). Is this just a case of Big Lots getting a really good deal on these mattresses and we should buy this (we lied on it at big lots and it seemed pretty nice), or is there some catch to this bed being so much cheaper that I'm missing?

Thanks, I've started to look through the forum posts and reviews. I was also considering another Simmons beautyrest. I saw Macy's had a nice one on sale for $900 after all discounts which is a bit above our budget but I was hoping it might last and be worth the extra money... but after reading how the pocketed coils don't hold up I guess I'll pass on that. Also I've found out that memory foam isn't all that great in warmer weather as it'll make a person very warm.

We're currently sleeping on a Simmons Beautyrest 2-sided pillowtop we got in 97 and it has held up amazingly considering it's age.All I really want is another bed that will be as comfortable and hold up like it has but it's seeming like they just don't make them like they used to. I'll keep on reading reviews and forum posts on here, but if anyone has any suggestions I'm open to listening. I'm in the same boat as another poster, onlytrueromeo, and don't live too far from where he is.

We bought the set from Big Lots last week.  It's been great so far. And as far as breakdown, or sagging down the road, we read the matress guarantee.  It's 10 years of coverage for everything except cosmetic.  We put a waterproof matress cover on the bed and another matress topper to protect it from any cosmetic damage.  If anything goes wrong with the matress now, we simply contact Serta and they either repair or replace the matress.  If they replace it, they promise to replace it with the same model or the newest model.  We looked at Sealy matresses and other matresses after we got rid of our Sleep Number bed, and Sealy's guarantee along with Big Lots price made it an easy decision for us.

Hi.. please do yourself a favor do not and I mean do not buy any mattress with a pillow top.. My friend that is all you will be buying is that small topper sewn into a mattress.. I don't care if it's a 900 dollar mattress or a 2000 dollar mattress.. it is a come on with a soft feel you immediately fall in love with.. however in a short time it will fail you.... be wise with your dollar and search for a good quality mattress that has structure to the top of the coils with solid filling such as a latex etc.  do some research and you will see .. but make sure you know it isn't cheap foam on top of those coils or they will fail you as well.. good luck..

Totally agree with everything Glenbury said. I'm sure the bed is fine after just one week, but pillowtops are bad news. I really hope you somehow got lucky and don't end up sleeping in a hole within a year or less.
