well hello again gang, my wife and i are living proof that there has to be a mattress for everyone. ( just havent found it yet). !

we began this journey when our old simmons 400 nxg decided to give out and the springs were fading and i wanted a new mattress..

we went with a very firm latex mattress that was already made the 6 inch core was a 36ild and the 3 inch top was a 28ild. it was way way too firm so like most people on here we tried to soften it with latex 1 inch toppers (didnt work) we tried 4 and 5 pound memory foam ( nope still very bad it would just sink to the top of the latex and become hard)

after a month of this we ended up selling the latex bed for 1/4 of what we paid. rrrrrrrr......

we told ourselves that we were going with a sterns and foster (brookstone estate collection) it too was a JOKE!  within a month i was sinking down three inches and waking up in extreme pain. we ended up doing mattress surgery and tying to replace the foam with latex and thought we fixed the problem but with a couple of nights the pain was back and we just did not have the right latex ild to fix the prob but.we could not fix it because the springs were extremely firm everything we put on top was like a rock and way too high.

so we found ourselves back in mattress stores shopping for yet (another) mattress ( extremely broke and unhappy)

we decided to go with a big name and with the tempurpedic lux supreme  ............  how do i put this mattress experience into words,, wait im a christian so i will be nice  soft on top hard as marble on the bottom after two weeks and a $300 try me now sticker (90 days or money back less 300 dollars) we called the store and told them it was the worse thing my wife and i have ever tried to sleep on.

i kept telling my wife latex, latex, latex. but what bed, what company flobeds? 3000 again rrrrrrr   plus more money to fix it if its not right. ?

seems like a guessing game that we have already played,, and lost... so i did what i thought was the right decision ( you guys can yell at me.. go ahead)

so what to do..........   We called sleeplikeabear  and just placed an order here is what we ordered

3 inch 32, 3 inch 28, 3 inch 24 and a 2 inch 19 ( we have a 2inch 14ild) so the way i look at it (if) we can make latex work it will be with all the ild out there i stayed away with a 36 ild because of our first latex beng way to firm.

so i will let you know how this will all end up we are on a mission my friends i just wish i got paid to do this...  lol not thats funny the bank account is not laughing either is the wife.

on a side note sleeplikeabear has the BEST customer service out there and i feel like there prices beat anything out there unless you are going over seas to get your latex. or it is blended. plus i think they make the very best wool , cotton, and bamboo covers that you can order over the internet by themselves.

i will keep you updated once the building of the latex begins.

I'm really sorry to hear about your tortured experience trying to purchase the right bed for you.  It illustrates an important and often overlooked item that should be on your shopping checklist: RETURN POLICY.

I hope this works out for you.

Can you give more details on what kind/thickness of toppers you tried on the original latex mattress that was too firm?   I can see how the original mattress would have been too firm for you, but I think if you would have added about 3-4" of softer layers it might have worked out.   Adding something like 1-2" each of 24 ILD and 19 ILD and 14 ILD or memory foam (totaling 4" max).   Usually it helps to have some transition from the firmer support layers to the softer comfort layers.

As another poster noted, this shows the value of buying from places that have good return policies and the ability to exchange layers to get the right firmness.

proof1st the latex mattress that we sold was all natural talalay from latex international. yes we tried about 6 different in store latax mattress stores, but it was our first time with latex so we went firmer thinking (it) would soften up over time, like all other beds however we did not find this website before we purchased our first latex mattress. all the toppers that we tried were talalay from slab.

sleepwithcats  love the name we love our cats, :) we did know about the return policy on every mattress we have ever purchased, most mattress stores and most online company's that sell mattress's offer a 1 or 2 comfort exchange. some do offer a money back less shipping and a restocking fee. some offer no risk, however there is always money out of the customers pocket otherwise these companies would not be in business very long. The place we purchased our first latex mattress had nothing on there floor that my wife liked so we decided to sell it. prob the wrong choice but we sold it to someone in need and it felt good to help her.

sandman yes your are right, prob should have gone with a 3 inch 24 or a 3 inch 20 or we should have exposed the latex and made our own mattress out of the fist latex model we purchased. adding 1 inch 19 or 21 does nothing to a firm bed. or does memory foam. we thought we were done with latex that is why we went with sterns and foster, we just picked the wrong mattress twice in a row and we are the kind of people who dont get upset with mattress companies it was our decision to pick a mattress that we thought would work for the both of us.

that is why we went with Tempurpedic is because of there many happer customers and there return policy. just because a mattress isnt good for some doesnt mean its a bad mattress its just the wrong one for some people.
