I could order a latex topper here in Canada from a place The Mattress and Sleep Company, but one of the few I see is $385 (including cotton cover) for a full size and it's composed of:

  • 2 inch latex: Talalay latex
  •

    • 30% natural rubber tree latex
    • 70% synthetic latex

I wouldnt say that price is totally out of whack - for example Sleep like a bear's price for a 2" full size blended talalay topper is 272 with no cover. Covers can be tough to find cheap. SLAB's covers go for over $100. of course you may not need a cover...  Another reason so many go for Foam by mail, along with the good prices on the latex, they basically throw in a terry cloth cover for cheap.

I can tell you my impressions on latex toppers - I tried 14 ild and 19 ild 3" toppers and definitely felt the encompassing floating-on-a-cloud feeling with both. I tried the 14 ild on a much firmer bed and it wasnt the same, I could feel the firmer surface through the topper - bottoming out I guess you'd call it. Doing the same with the 19 ild, it didnt feel like it bottomed out - still good and soft. I do think incrementally softer layers make a difference, but one layer may work for you if you find the right combination of support/softness and thickness.

I cant speak from experience but many do say the FBM 20 ild is firmer than other manufacturers 20ild. something to consider if youre thinking of going that route.
