Tempurpedic uniform price policy

I visited a local store that has been in business for 30 years and I also visited rooms to go. The local dealer is willing to sell

 

 

 

 

me a king size cloud supreme for 2399 which rooms to go is sellling for same expected price. The local dealer is however, also willing to throw in  the

foundations (box spring ) , protective cover and a regular medal frame because my current frame is bent. Rooms to go made me a bit suspicious of this deal because

they said that the local dealer cannot do that because the price is regulated across the board. So does that pertain to just mattresses and not the foundations? Rooms to go is selling

Mattress and foundation for 2899 so why is this local dealer willing to give me mattress, foundations , protective cover and metal frame for 2399? should I be aware of something here?

There is a small local chain in my area that also sells TP at a small discount, plus throws in two TP pillows, and eats the sales tax. (For instance, a Bellafina split king with ergo base MSRP's for $7600 plus tax. They sell it for $6840 with no tax, and throw in $200-$300 of TP pillows at no charge.)

We bought a Vera Wang latex matt there with a TP Ergo base. Now, where will I buy my next bed from? And, where will I suggest people go for their TP matts, pillows, and foundations? One of the big chains that sell at MSRP? I'm a frayed knot.


Im not saying there is no logical reason to discount in general.  However there is no real logical point in discounting so much that you are not making any money on something.  On an order as big as the one you just mentioned you could give that much of a deal if you like and still probably make a couple grand. It's a good deal for you, its a good deal for them, and yeah you probably will send them some extra business through referral some day.

On a Cloud Supreme to give that much of a discount you might only be making $600.  If anything is gonna put that place out of business its people who give away the farm without being asked for a deal.  Most big chains make that much money on sales half the size, and they pump out crappy beds one after another all day long.  If these guys have to scratch and claw there way to a sale that is still by no means small and only make the same, then yeah, there is no point in going THAT low. 

It even looked like to me, since this place was local that if their price was the same as this other dealer he visited that they probably would have won out in the end regardless of the discount or not.

yes,  I am sorry I got so off topic.  they are allowed to do whatever they want as far as pricing goes, the rule is they cannot show a lower price on the merchandise in the store, and they are supposed to refrain from quoting low over the phone.
