What Foam is in your iComfort?

From day 1 looking at the iComfort Revolution at Sears, I had always thought the Revolution model consists of 4.75" total of memory foam.  Click on the link to see photo of ad board at Sears.

Yesterday I unzipped the Revolution cover on bottom end of the mattress enough to stick my hand in and feel the core foam and the glue seams.  I measured several times to discover there is not 4.75" memory foam as indicated by the ad, but 5.75" ....

and it makes sense as well.  2.75" is likely the universal height of all gel memory foams put into the iComforts.  And I measured 6" core in the Revolution, not 7" like I had believed, til yesterday.  So, the models go like this, IMO ....

Insight - 6" core + 2.75" gel memory foam = 8.75" total height

Genius - 6" core + 2" support foam layer + 2.75" gel = 10.75" mattress height

Revolution - 6" core + 2.75" gel foam + 3" Koolcomfort memory foam = 11.75" mattress height

Prodigy - 6" core + 2.75" gel foam + 1" latex + 3" Koolcomfort = 12.75"  height

----------------------------

bottom line - IMO, the Revolution and Prodigy do not seem to have 2" 'Koolcomfort memory foam', they seem to have 3".  I've wondered why the Revoluton and Prodigy are awfully plush, and to me, this seems to explain why.

So, what's the big deal?  I believe a mattress ought to be constructed as advertised.  From what I found, it is not.

Thoughts?

They've got 3" Kookcomfort non-gel memory foam in Revolution, then 2.75" gel memory foam right under that.  That's a lot of memory foam.

I just bought a 2.5" gel memory foam topper from Costco, Sleep Innovations brand.  I'm trying it on top of this SleepEZ 10000 all latex bed.  I'd love to try a Celsion Latex Intl 15 ILD topper from Sleep Like a Bear, I'm just not in the mood to mail order any more right now.

Ok so, the 3" layer is the softer4 lb foam and the gel infused foam under that must be the firmer 5lb. Makes sense.

Not quite sure why the bottom layer would be gel infused and not the top. Maybe it's a marketing thing, so they can sell you a total gel infused mattress (top and bottom) for more money.

OR!

they believe that the 4lb foam which affords higher airflow does not get hot enough to warrant additional silicon polymer pieces added into the matrix.

I know costco carries the gel infused foam also in a 3" slab of 5 lb foam.

Latex is much harder to work with than memory foam...In my oppinion it's not as comfortable, and 3 or more layers of different IFD's are needed to make it remotely comfortable.

Latex is no doubt a better foam though. Will last years.
