What mattress cover/protector do you recommend for a latex bed?

We are going the 100% Natural Latex route...well have almost convinced my spouse anyways! (I'd much rather birth a 10 ob baby, with no epidural, then to decide on a mattress! It's been a nightmare! crying) I have never been an environmentalist or cared much about sleeping on chemicals basically from being nieve about them, but after having a son who was diagnosed with Autism 3 years ago with high levels of toxins in his system and wondering how they got there, led me down a path of research as a parent that Pediatricians do not tell you anything about. But, anywho, that's another topic all together!

I realize bugs/dust mites/allergens do not like 100% Natural latex...but they still like the material covering on top..so do most of you purchase a mattress protector/complete cover for your beds? Any suggestions on one that doesn't defeat the purpose of having a chemical free bed going latex that doesn't take away the feeling from the latex to which we are spending the bulk of the money on? Thank you for your time!

I guess being able to wash the cover and get rid of dead skin cells and dust mites is probably more important. Cotton or wool? Doesn't wool shrink quite a bit? We were thinking of getting the Sleep EZ mattress that is currently on Special, 8 " that has a plain cotton/rayon stretchy cover (I read that stretchy was important), not the "high end" wool one on their other mattresses. It's like $400 cheaper just going the plain cotton cover...seems like we could get a nice mattress protector for less then $400? What are your thoughts or those who have Sleep EZ mattresses? Thanks!

Yes, stretchy is good.  And yes, even the high-end Dormeir wool mattress pad will be much less than $400 - probably just under $200.  I have washed my Dormeir on hot and yes it did shrink a bit.  But they are generously cut and it hasn't affect the fit.

is it ok to use a mattress protector over the foam topper cover? will it generate a lot of heat?
