What topper to finish my FBM base

Okay, here's my starter setup so far, all from FBM:

4" LUX-HQ as base

2" HD36-HQ on top of base

1" 20ILD Talalay latex

Obviously, this is still pretty firm and I can vouch for that after one night. I only bought 1" of latex because I wanted to try it out first. Now I need to decide on what to get to complete the comfort layer. Do I want another 1" layer of latex and if so, would another 20ILD be just right? I still want a firm bed (becuase my back needs it) but I'm wondering if the 2" of "comfort layer" can still afford to be on the softer side of latex since the foam base is firm. I've heard the 20ILD isn't much different from the 32ILD at FBM. Maybe all 20ILD will be just right on top of the firm base. Maybe 1" of 32ILD and 2" of 20ILD (assuming there is actually a difference). I'd prefer not to do any memory foam.

I'm taking suggestions :)

weiser701, there is a ig difference between how 20 feels compared to 32. I wish you could swap your 36 with a 32 or 28 .The core of your mattress defines how the top will feel and it is way too hard of a support. if swap is not possible, definitely add another 2" of 20 ild.

I know many people here have said that 1" of 20ILD is pretty useless unless you're extremely light weight and that the thinnest you should start with is 2". I'd try another inch on top of that.

I folded the latex over to make 2" and tried that out the past two nights. There was a noticeable difference and possibly could work. Tonight I'll try 1" of the HD36-HQ (I went with two 1" layers) folded and the latex folded on top of that. I did a preliminary test already and it felt pretty good. The extra 1" of HD36-HQ sure made a difference. We'll see in the morning...

Thanks for the replies so far!

Weiser, you have 4" of (50 ILD) foam then 2" of (35 ILD) and 1" of medium-firm latex as a comfort layer.  That's got to be too firm, even if you need it for your back.  The FBM latex runs on the firm side so try 2" of their "soft" latex to put under the 1" you already have.

My FBM setup is a (queen) 5" base of HD36-R under a 3" layer of "soft" talalay latex (20 ILD) and another 2" of the same soft (20 ILD) talalay latex. The first several nights I was convinced it was way too firm but surprisingly I adjusted and now it only feels slightly firm.

The FBM soft (20 ILD) seems to compare with a Latex International 28 or 32 ILD.  This may be a result of the European sourcing, it's listed as 5.6 lbs on the invoice but that's the only detail provided.

It's close to comfortable so I've been able to take my time deciding how to tweak the final comfort layer.  I'm leaning towards a Rejuvenite 3" Latex Mattress Topper (19 ILD) with the cotton/poly cover because it’s the same price as comparable bare latex ($400) and I think the knit ticking will feel nice under my thin mattress casing.  The goal is firm with just a little more cradling by removing the 5" HD36 poly foam and using the 5" talalay latex as a base under the Rejuvenite topper.

I actually purchased 3" LI latex mattress topper (19 ILD) from Overnight Mattress but it was backordered and they never notified me until I called a week later.  After cancelling the order they hadn't processed the refund after two weeks so I disputed the charge with the credit card company.  These people may be going out of business, I'd stay away.
