Would like to know what firmness and thickness for a latex topper I should get
Hello, I have been reading your many posts and would like to know if you can help me decide what type (thickness, firmness) of latex topper to get. I currently have a new Simmons Beauty Rest World class plush firm mattress that seems to be too firm/hard. It is uncomfortable to sleep on my side - shoulders, hip, thigh ache sometime feel numbness. In the beginning, I was able to sleep on my back, okay, but not getting a good night rest. Now, it is very uncomfortable sleeping on my back, it feels just too plain hard. So I am hoping a latex topper would soften things up and relieve some of the pressure points so that I can sleep on my side and my back. Mostly, I gravitate to my side. I am about 5'10" 153 1bs. I was thinking a 2 inch 24 ILD latex topper would be sufficient, but based on some of the posting, I am getting concern about getting something too soft or squishy The comfort foam of the current mattress has 3/4 firm foam, 1 1/2" convoluted foam, 1 1/2" plush foam, and 5/8" visco foam. The innerspring has 960 coil count, 13 1/4 gauge. Based on these specification, would 1 inch be sufficient? Is 24 ILD to soft?. I am thinking about purchasing from sleepinglikeabear.com. Thanks, any help would be appreciated. This message was modified Jun 7, 2009 by Goldilock

Re: Would like to know what firmness and thickness for a latex topper I should get
I would first try a 1" latex topper for that bit of cushion without being too soft. Then after 1 week if you need more padding, then you can add another 1" topper and decide then how soft or firm that needs to be. |
Re: Would like to know what firmness and thickness for a latex topper I should get
I recently got a 2" topper from www.foambymail.com. They offer 2 choices: soft or medium (and they also offer 1" toppers). I chose medium. It is actually more firm than I expected - perhaps because my mattress is very firm - but I am pleased. I ordered the 2" because I was nervous that 1" would not be thick enough. I have no regrets. I was having pain issues similar to you - including back pain. I've had the topper for 2 weeks now and no more pain. For price alone, I would recommend foambymail - and the quality seems to be very good. Let us know what you decide. |
Re: Would like to know what firmness and thickness for a latex topper I should get
Thank you all for your feedback. I have not decided, but may start out with 1 inch. In the meantime, I decided to test a 2 inch memory foam from a guest room, I like the feel of the softness , but it has not given me a good night's sleep. I still toss and turm because of the aches/pains, etc. It makes me wonder if 2 inch is too thick. Will I feel any difference between the memory foam and the latex? Or will I have the same experience with the latex that I have with the memory foam? Thanks again, |
2" All Natural Latex from Latex International at 22 ILD
I slept on a 2" latex topper (22 ILD) over a 6" core (30 ILD) for a year and damaged my lower back. I then upgraded the 6" core from 30 ILD to 39 ILD, but it did not help because of the 2" topper. I then put the 2" topper at the bottom and slept directly on the 39 ILD 6" core and my back started feeling better. Now I have pressure points on my shoulders and so may consider a 1" topper since the 2" appeared too thick and compromised the firm support. My latex is all natural from Latex International.
