Wow Sleep EZ is FIRM!!

My Sleep EZ mattress came in yesterday, so we got a nights sleep on it. I ordered the dunlop because we like a firm mattress, but WOW, this this is like a rock. We ordered Firm/Med/Soft for my wife and Ex Firm/Firm/Med for me based on our own personal thoughts and Sleep EZ's recommendation. We really can't feel a difference between the two sides, both are just really really hard. It is no ones fault, but I am regretting not going with the talalay. When I ordered they were very nice at Sleep EZ, and I am going to call back for an exchange which will hopefully fix the problem, but I am a little doubtful. We are going to swap a Ex Firm and a Firm for two Talalay Softs, so that we end up with Med/Soft/Talalay Soft for my wife and Firm/Med/Talalay Soft for me. This is in NO WAY bashing Sleep EZ, I just assumed these were going to be softer than they are. I would recommend to anyone ordering from Sleep EZ to definitely error on the side of too soft, because it probably wont be. I am also thinking that maybe I should put some more spacing between the slats on my bed. Right now they are 2.5" wide slats with 1" spacing. Would increasing the spacing to 2" make the bed feel softer? |

So I just talked to Sleep EZ. They said if I order a new layer now it wont go out until monday anyway, so I might as well get a couple more nights on our current setup, and then call on monday incase we change our mind. He said a lot of people call after a night or two wanting to switch, then regret it later because it take a couple nights to adapt to sleeping on latex, so hopefully that is the case. Again, he was very helpful, and said the talalay soft should contour us a little, then our current dunlop layers will still provide a firm base, which is what we want, so hopefully it will all work out. Also, before I called, we switched around the layers trying to make one side good, we went with a Med/Med/Soft on my wife's side, and she likes the support, and just want a little more cush on the top, so switching to the talalay soft should work for her. When I laid on it, I agreed it needed the talalay soft on top, but I think I could stand a little firmer on the bottom, so I think unless things change in the next two nights, we will be good to go with Med/Soft/Talalay Soft for her, and Firm/Med/Talalay Soft for me. |

Hi Steve: Well my friend you are going through right now what I am about to go through. I have been doing all the reading and trying to ascertain who has the best price, and better business bureau reports, and return policies etc. now that I have narrowed it down to a couple of companies I have to decide between talalay and dunlop and firmness layers. Not an easy process when there is no dealer close by where I can try out the mattresses. So next week I am going out of state to a dealer and actually lay down on the various configurations. From what you are saying in your post you made a mistake by erring on the side of firmness. From everything I am reading, your experience would've been entirely different had you chosen talalay. Talalay seems to me to be a much more "springy" type of latex foam ( and here we are talking about 100 percent natural organic latex foam) than dunlop. the only way to really know for sure is to lay down on the mattress and sleep on it as you have done. I am beginning to think that dunlop firm for the bottom layer, and dunlop medium for the middle layer, with a top layer of soft talalay maybe the way to go. But that is the reason for driving out of state to test the mattresses. I just do not want to get involved with a lot of shipment of various layers as this can become quite expensive, time-consuming, and frustrating. I would be careful about too much soft talalay because from what I am hearing the differences between dunlop and talalay can be quite striking. I was told by Sean at SleepEZ that soft dunlop is more like medium talalay and so forth, or to put it another way, there is one firmness difference between dunlop and talalay with talalay being softer. But I am wondering if the real difference is based on the fact that talalay is just more springy feeling compared to dunlop. As I indicated I have not laid on them or slept on them as you have I have only compared samples. I will be receiving some samples from Flowbeds of there talalay and I will compare them to the samples that I received from Savvy Rest that had both talalay and dunlop. I will let you know what I find if anything. I do not believe that based on my limited knowledge of such things, that changing the distance between the slats on your bed will make any difference. My guess is that you do not want to try and adjust your comfort level based on varying distances between slats. I would think that is the wrong way to go. You have my very best wishes on a successful selection of firmness layers as well as the two different types of latex processing. Be sure to post back and let us know what your actual experience is. Steve: I just received my samples of foam from FloBeds. The talalay latex from Savvy rest and Flobeds feels the same to me. Talalay is sure a lot softer than dunlop as far as my sense is concerned. I would be very careful about including too much talalay in my own mattresses. I am six foot two inches and weigh 210 pounds. I sleep mostly on my side. So I need a fairly firm bed. I have slept for over 20 years on a waterbed and have decided to try something else. Shawn at SleepEZ told me that those folks who come to them from waterbeds are the most difficult to satisfy. There is nothing that sleeps like a waterbed. But if you never try anything else what do you know for sure? Well, anyway, onward and upward...... I hope. |

I have the Savvy Rest free samples too. I think a layer of that will be nice. We will still keep the firmer dunlop base, so I dont think it will end up too soft, and if it does, maybe we could put the talalay as the middle layer. I am 6' 2" and 216lb. and I sleep on my back and side, so we are pretty similar there.<BR><BR>Funny about the waterbeds, I thought there were just some terrible trend in the 80s. I guess not. | No Steve there are still folks who find waterbeds just the ticket for there good night's sleep. I just feel I would like to try something different before I cash in. If I do not care for it, I can go back to my waterbed. |

| I tried out some Natura latex beds that a furniture store near me has just started to carry. The first couple I tried had a dunlop core. I did not like the feel of them. Very "dead" feeling. Then I tried one with a talalay core and it was very comfortable. I ended up with a bed from Denver Mattress (a chain store) it's their Snowmass latex bed. It has a 6 inch talalay core with a softer 2 inch talalay on top. It does have about an inch of PU form in the quiliting, but I think that I got a great deal - the mattress was only $750! That's about half of what I would have paid with SleepEZ. Granted, I had to take the bed as it came configured, but I just wasn't in the position to plunk down $1500 on a mattress right now. So far I have been sleeping better than on our old broken down innerspring mattress, though the new one is a bit firm. I just ordered a Cuddlebed from Costco, so I will se how that goes. |

wow that sounds like a good deal. I think a talalay core would be too soft for us though. We tried out a couple in the stores with a dunlop core and talalay top and really liked them, so hopefully that is what we will end up with. I know the "dead" feeling you are talking about, but I actually like that. |
