Zoning ideas
23" S for head and shoulder 28" 33ILD for rib cage/lumbar & hips 28" F for knees and feet This is 79" for queensize (if I added right). I am trying to make this simple for me to figure out (math challenged). But also why can't the rib cage/lumbar and hips have the same ILD. Your rib cage won't sink, but the hips will. As for the knees and feet, who cares? Those are so light this can be firm. Right? Just trying to keep it simple. Also I am a side sleeping and the knees and feet are using the middle area anyway. There is the problem the legs sink in for me. UGH. This message was modified Feb 7, 2010 by Leo3

Re: Zoning ideas
I concur that cutting latex and just sitting the individual zoned pieces on the mattress next to each other, it does not shift more than 1/8 and usually not at all. I believe this not to be a problem. When I was doing zoning I had about 12 pieces all the same size x 1" thick of various ILD's, then I could mix and match them in various ways. I just set them next to each other on the mattress and they never shifted. I wrote what they were right on them, with a permanent marker. As to my wanting to try the 14ILD latex, Sandman: I am completely happy with my current mattress and am not making ANY changes at all. I've never been happier with a mattress since I first came to this forum about 7 or 8 years ago! (Don't believe the date it gives here on when I first joined.) But I guess you could say that necessity is the mother of invention and I came here out of necessity to learn how to buy a good mattress, and that led to my learning DIY mattress techniques, and I've been at this game for so long that it has become somewhat of a "hobby" for me! Now I don't need any more latex and could just leave the forum and go about my business but I find this stuff interesting. So the only reason I would like to try this or that, is "just to see" how it feels. But no, I don't plan to change my mattress at all unless it stops feeling good like it does now! If I were to buy anything new it would be to fix my wife's mattress if and when she needs it, or "just for fun" if I had more money and wanted to try something just for the heck of it. One reason I like this forum so much, I realize, too, is that people here almost never fight and it's all about mattresses, no other topics are allowed, so it's kind of relaxing for me to come here and not be part of the in-fighting and politics and other stuff that goes on in most other forums. This is just a nice place to visit with nice people! (Admittedly I should move on and do something more productive with my time. And in the past I have disappeared for months or years only to come back when I began to have a mattress issue... which is to be expected, I think. So don't be surprised if I disappear again...)
