Mattress Forum

First of all, I was convinced that latex was the way to go after reading extensively on this site and reading other reviews of people unhappy with both polyurethane pillowtops and memory foam. Our 10 year old conventional spring mattress was uncomfortable and I rarely slept well through the night. My husband prefers a firm mattress and I prefer a little softer, so we had to find something that would be a good compromise for the two of us.  For this reason, we decided to only consider mattresses we could go a physically lie down on in a store.  I just didn't want to deal with mail order and potential returns.

The mattress we ended up choosing was from the Original Mattress Factory. They make two latex mattresses. One is about 9" thick with a 6" Talalay latex core (32 ILD and topper 19 ILD) ($1100 or so for queen size) and the other is a few inches thicker and quite a bit softer ($1500+ for queen). We chose the lower priced one because it wasn't too soft for my husband yet it seemed comfortable for me.  After sleeping on it for about two months, I can say that it is the best mattress we have ever had!  Many nights I sleep the entire night without waking up, whereas with the old mattress I had to change position over and over because of discomfort.  One nice factor about Original Mattress is that their mattresses are still two-sided which potentially gives you double the life of the typical one-sided mattress.

Before I read about matresses, I thought we might try memory foam. But the more I read, I felt memory foam had some risks and I just wasn't sure it had the feeling I wanted in a mattress. Latex seemed to be the perfect material. Thus far, I can say that we'll be sleeping on latex from here on out unless something that hasn't been invented yet comes along and surpasses it!

As an aside, I'd like to mention that we also bought Latex International Rejuvenite pillows (queen-high loft) and I have never slept better!!! I LOVE these pillows!!!
