Hi all! I'm new to the forum and hoping to get some great mattress advice. I'm moving to NY from the west coast and am shopping for a new mattress. My mattress set (mattress+box spring) in California was a full Sears-o-pedic Comfort Cloud Iridescent LX II Firm (I believe this is the name, unfortunately I'm no longer in California and can't verify). The mattress description was similar to this:

  • Marvelux® Foam Exquisite foam that provides an extra level of cushioning to create a firm, yet luxurious feel
  • Two layers of Sears-O-Pedic SuperSoft Foam Soft, high density foam that cushions and conforms to your body to provide a plush, luxurious feel
  • Resilium A marvelous resilient fiber that offers the loft, softness and breathability of cotton but bounces back to retain its plumpness, shape and support for longer Comfort Life™
  • DuraFiber™ Extra Pad Super-firm blend of natural and synthetic fibers to give you extra support and longer Comfort Life™
  • Comfort Response Individually Wrapped Coils 713 queen coils conform to the bodys unique shape and sleeping position to provide luxurious comfort and eliminate motion disturbance
  • XpandEdge Plus Durable foam rail supports and strengthens the seating edge, while the heavy-gauge border wire provides uniformity and stability
  • Lok-Tight Stabilizer Provides added surface stability in the middle one-third of the mattress where body weight is concentratedM/LI>

I think the Iridescent LX line was a little less fancy.

My tastes may be a little plebian, but honestly, I just LOVED that bed. Sears no longer carries the Iridescent model and it's not available at the Sears Outlets. I would love to get any ideas about similar/equivalent mattresses available in Full. Sadly, there's a good chance that I will have to order online without trying the mattresses (a disaster, I know). Even if I do have a chance to try things out, I'd love to be able to narrow my search. My preference would be to keep the purchase (well) under $1000. I'd also take any thoughts about Sears-o-pedic mattresses generally.

Any input is greatly appreciated!!!

Hi, My wife and I purchased a Queen Sears-O-Pedic about 3.5 years ago. The mattress had the pillow top much as you described,it slept good for a few months but devolped craters. I'm about 5"10" @ around 160 lbs. The bed was in the price range you mentioned. I would never buy another pillow top mattress from Sears, or anyone else. Of course you couldn't flip the above mattress and that shorten the effective life of it. I don't want a mattress that you need to flip, i'm in the process of buying components for a DIY latex mattress. If I were to buy another interspring setup I would buy a firm quilted top mattress and add a 2" topper. This is what I was shopping for when I went to Sears. They poo pooed the idea of a topper since you could get the pillow top already build in. I hadn't done my research or read this forum and the purchase didn't work out too good. I don't know about you folks but my wife is not crazy about laying down on beds in a store, we ended up with something less than we needed........ I've thought about mattress surgery but don't see a good way to work with the pillow top. Without cutting the mattress case I can't determine what caused the depression. Anyway good luck with finding the right mattress for you. When I get to a final decision on a new mattress for me I will write something in another thread on the results.
