Spent $2300 on a serta perfect day, euro top, perfect firmness and feel for my body and back issues, perfect
Only one problem, they have memory foam mixed in with other materials for the top part of the mattress that makes contact with your skin and it sleeps warm, not hot like foam but warm and that is no good...so the disadvantage of foam without any of the advantages.
Sending it back, costs me 25% approx of what I paid but better than 100%...darn, thought I had it. |
Have you tried a mattress pad that has some wool in it? That might help moderate temperatures. It is going to be hard to avoid any foam, so warmth will always be an issue.
I am no longer am bothered by heat issues. I use a wool filled topper and a wool filled mattress pad. I am not sure if that was the solution, or if I just went through a prior period being heat sensitive before. Last year I was using latex (Flobed) with a wool filled cover and a wool mattress pad (some of the time) and for some reason the heat was bothering me. Maybe it just took a while to get use to using more foam. I would say that my mattress gets comfortably warm, but not too hot at this point, and I have 1" of memory (below the wool topper) as my top layer. p.s. I did find my Sealy innerspring was hot before I did the surgery and added more wool. So, the S brand foams can be hot. This message was modified Jul 19, 2010 by sandman

Oh Randy, I'm sorry you're still having problems. Heat seems to be a big factor for a lot of us. Since the Serta feels so good, do you have time to try Sandman's suggestion of putting some wool over it before sending it back? |
i can get natura wool topper at bed bath for $229, kind pricey...dont know if i can return it, suppose so, it is filled with wool and outside is cotton, is that right?

I think the Natura is okay. They have a washable one, so you may want to consider that. A lot of people here like the St. Dormier mattress pad. Read this recent post. You would probably have to order and have it shipped though. I tried the snugfleece and ended up returning it because I did not like the feel. The one I got (because it was in stock) was a washable one, and it had the feel of a piece of carpet. I think it is made different from the non-washable ones though. I ended up getting a wool topper that I ordered from Wal-mart.com. Can't remember who made it, but their are plenty of brands out their, inlcuding Natura. You probably should try just the wool mattress pad first to see if that works. Even if you end up returning the mattress, the St. Dormier or Natura is a nice mattress pad to have. this one?
not returnable, it says... i have a mattress that is approx 14 inches tall, would the 16 inch pocket be enough and would the 24 be too much and awkward?

Yes, that looks to be the one. I don't own it myself (I have one of the washable Natura's), so I am not totally sure about the depth you want. The 16" says up to 12" thick, so if your mattress is thicker I would go with the 24" like they say. I think the excess material will tuck under the mattress. Maybe someone else will have a better idea of the depth issue. Everyone one that has bought one seems to like them (as far as I know), so still nice to have even if you return the mattress. I don't know if just the mattress pad/protector will have enough wool to solve your problem, but it is a good first step. You also may have to focus on the sheets, blankets, comforters, etc. that you use. I now use 200TC egyptian cotton sheets (by Bellino), and I don't use a down comforter unless it is very cold. In summer I just use cotton blankets. I have a cashmere/wool blanket that I add when it is colder. So, I have tried to go as much with natural and breathable materials on top of the mattress and over me: cotton, wool, cashmere. Supposedly silk is also good, but I have not tried. p.s. do you know what the top layers of your Serta are? p.s.s. didn't you try the Serta in a hotel, and you did not have heat issues? What is different? If you got a softer model, that might be part of the issue. The more you sink in, the more body surface is in contact with the mattress and the more you will feel the warmth. Hi Randy, My suggestion would be try a pad from Bed Bath and Beyond. They have no hassle returns. Sears also carries Natura online which can be returned (be sure it says "sold by sears"). I agree with Sandman on the Snugfleece. I tried both the Original (non-washable), stiff rows of stitching on the backing, and the Imperial (washable), backing did indeed feel like carpet. I returned them, but it took a month to get a refund. I just ordered the Dormeir, but I won't receive it for at least another week and it's not returnable. |
I have a snugfleece original king, and am extremely pleased with it. Natalie must be unbelievably sensitive to be able to feel any stitching while lying on this pad, as one and three quarter inch thick rows of the softest wool imaginable are stitched to a very soft cotton sheeting base. I don't know anything about snugfleece washable bases, but the original base feels nothing at all like carpet foundation. The effect of lying on this pad is as close to lying on a cloud as mortals can experience. Philip |
i will try the bed bath beyond version, ordered today, expedited shipping, then go from there...i see a review here now of the snugfleece that makes me wonder if that shouldnt be the 2nd one i try if this doesnt do it as that is returnable and dormier is not |
