Serta Siesta Elite Pillowtop Mattress Help!!!

I recently bought (3months ago) a queen size Serta Siesta Elite Pillowtop Mattress set (anyone heard of this mattress model) and have been sleeping on it for a couple of months.  When I first slept in it (first 15 min.) it felt great.  However,  when I wake up in the mornings I get lower back stiffness and pain.  Does anyone know how you are supposed to "fit" in a bed?....i.e, should you be "cradled" on the mattress and how "deep" should the mattress go down on your hips/butt when you are sleeping in it.  I am a side sleeper primarily.

I am getting the feeling I am not getting the lower back support that I need.  Is there anyway for me to "firm" up a softer bed.  I heard from many that it is not possible, you can only soften a hard bed.  I am past my 60 day comfort gurantee so I cannot return the bed.  I am hoping for a good solution without losing my shirt in purchasing a new bed.

First thought is maybe your "box springs" are sagging. Did you buy a set or just a new mattress?

If you find it's definitely the mattress itself, check your area for a custom mattress shop. It's possible they could unstitch the ticking (top quilted layer) and add an additional fiber pad on top of the innerspring unit. This will have the effect of making the "support core" more firm by making the springs less independent.  it may also be the "comfort layers" that are too soft. The major caveat that is you'd have to keep the overall height the same so the ticking could be re-sewn and the mattress would look the same as before.

They will have the proper machine to re-attach the ticking. Check, for example, to see if you have a Verlo Mattress Factory in your area. I have no idea if they would actually do this for you but it's worth asking. I know they do this with their own mattresses when a customer finds their mattress to be too firm or too soft.

That rather definitively eliminates the foundation as a possible culprit.

I bought this same matress 5 years ago.  What a mistake.  For decades I have slept on a SERTA, always Great comfort.  But, The main problem with the soft pillow top is that you cannot turn your matress over, therefore, in a short time, the shape of your body makes a big indentation on the pillow top.  When I realized the discomfort and lack of support, I was told it was too late to make an exchange.  I am a senior on a low income, and could not afford to discard this matress and buy a different one.  The matress companies used to make a matress with a pillow top both sides..... now... they have discovered they can sell twice as many matresses by only making the pillow top on one side.   I have saved up enough to buy a new bed...... it will not be a SERTA SIESTA  Elite PILLOWTOP.

Thank you,   Kim Steen
