Sleep Options 11" latex from Sleepys

After MANY issues, and 3 mattress replacements on the Sleep to Live bed in less than 1 year, due to sagging. My husband and I decided to go the latex route. We were only allowed a store credit with Sleepys, otherwise I would have ran full speed ahead to Sleepez for my bed.

We settled on a Sleep Options 11" latex bed from Sleepys. The bed is made by Classic Sleep. Does anyone have experience with this bed? We bought ours last week. The mattress was delivered Friday, the box springs were wrong, so that was rescheduled to deliver on Sunday. When the delivery people brought the box springs in, the mattress was snagged in their moving process. I called customer service because I wanted it noted, so as to not cause my warranty to be voided. Sleepys MADE me accept delivery of a new mattress Monday afternoon, if I didn't accept the new one, my warranty would be voided. In came the new mattress.

What I've noticed is the first mattress was softer than the second. I've only slept on the second mattress for one night, but it is much firmer to me. This is suppose to be a plush mattress, but I'm not getting that feeling. Also, the first mattress took 2 days to come up to full size when it was taken out of the box. The second mattress took only a few minutes.

The specs are as follows;

  • Ribbon Knit All Around
  • Quilted top with Zipper Cover
  • 1" Quilting Foam
  • 3" 4lb. 20 ILD Dunlop Latex
  • 2" 2lb 15ILD Comfort Foam
  • 5" 2lb.  30ILD Base Foam

I'm 5'6 and weigh between 140-150 (depending on bloat and my natural weigh fluctuations). My hubby is 6'4 and weighs about 205.

My question is; are these good beds? I'm very worried. I fell in love with the Pure Latex Bliss Nutrition 11", but it was $1300 more than the Sleep Options. Budget is a factor for us. I've been told the bed needs a "break in" period, which does concern me. If it needs to "break in" then doesn't that ultimately mean sagging will follow? There is also a $400 comfort exchange fee, and the only bed I would exchange for would be the Pure Latex, which would bring the cost UP to $1700. I could get a whole new mattress from Sleepez at that price. Insights PLEASE, it looks like I'm stuck. I hope I grow to like the mattress, and if I don't, then I'll keep my fingers crossed that a 1.5" sag develops so the mattress will fail inspection, and we can get back to the drawing board.

Thanks for your help and insights, as I can't seem to find a single review on this mattress anywhere.

We've also been doing our "research and development" at Sleepy's in preparation to purchase a latex mattress. I dont think there is anything inherently wrong with the mattress you have - it is what it is - dunlop latex over a base foam. The Nutrition mattress is all talalay latex -2 " 19 ild, 2" 28 ild over a 6" 36 ild base. Dunlop latex is firmer than talalay.

If you feel the need for more softness, this is doable - for the cost of a comfort exchange you can buy an all-talalay topper to put on your current mattress.  You can get 3" Pure Latex bliss 14 ild toppers (same ones Ive seen in the Sleepys store) at STL beds online for under $400 (queen). If they have those at the sleepys where you are, you can try putting one on top of the Sleep Options mattress in the store to see if that works for you. Also check out sleep like a bear for toppers. If you can swing a couple layers of similiar ILDs as the Nutrition, you may get very close to the level of softness you're looking for.

I hate to spend more money. I'll have to give the bed time to see if it does soften.

Were you able to locate any reviews on this bed in your search? I was hoping to find some people who have it, or found reviews for the bed.

Giving it time sounds like a good call.

I assume youve seen the reviews at Sleepy's site - I'd take those with a grain of salt, but at least one reviewer mentioned firmer than expected and some kind of topper solved it.

Thats the upside to a firm mattress - at least you can make it softer. If you decide that's what you need, but the cost of latex is prohibitive - other toppers, featherbeds, etc may do the trick.

I only saw reviews for the Sleep Options 8" firm Latex. There were no reviews for the 11" plush latex (my mattress).

I did find a 1.5" twin XL topper from Sleepez for $110, but you have to be routed through Amazon to get that price. My hubby prefers the firmness, so the twin XL would cover my side perfectly. If I do decide to go with the topper, I will need to call and find out what level of softness it is, as it's not stated, or I missed it. I think 1.5" would work, I hope!

Thats cool - the link at amazon leads to a section of sleepEZ's site I hadn't seen before - thanks.

I think thats a pretty good price too. But if you want to look around, here is a thread I've refered to for online sources for toppers:

After spending most of my day looking around online for a talalay topper at a very reasonable price. I came across this site. I can get a 3" twin size piece to soften my side of the bed, while leaving my husbands side firm, and it's only $173. Not a bad price at all. Their dog beds are dirt cheap too! I have a few dogs, and I usually get their beds for an astronomical price from LL Bean.

I'm going to give my bed a few more weeks. Then if theres no improvement, I know where to order from!

I received my 3" 20 ILD talalay topper from FBM yesterday to put on top of this Sleep Options mattress. All I can say is my lower back pain is gone, after only one night, I slept like a baby. It was so comfortable!!!! I normally need an adjustment period when I sleep on a new surface. There was no adjustment period needed with this topper. It felt amazing to sleep on!

The only down side, I now sleep 3" higher than my hubby. Hopefully we'll order him a firm topper soon for his side, not for comfort, as the dunlop top layer on our mattress is comfortable him, it would be just so we can we sleep on the same level!

I think in a year or two I may buy my 2 year old son a topper for his very basic Poly foam mattress with only a thin comfort layer on top. Right now he's so light it doesn't matter, but eventually I think he'll love one!

I'm a complete talalay latex convert. Never will I sleep on anything else again. My next mattress will definitely be 100% talalay latex 3 or 4 layers.

YAY to soft Talalay!!!!!!

I got my FBM order yesterday as well and loving it. The piece that I got looked very nice. I'll probably order another 2" topper for more comfort.

So glad to hear that you are both liking your FBM 20 ILD toppers.  What kind of sleepers are y'all (stomach, side, or back)?  I was thinking of going with just a 2" 20 ILD since we are stomach sleepers, but y'all are making me think now 3" may be the way to go with serehya liking the 3" version and need2sleep thinking of adding another 2" on top of the 2" one.

Thanks,

Cliff

Well my current configuration would be great for stomach sleeping; I tried all three positions and stomach is the only one I wouldn't have to tweak. Unfortunately, I'm a 60% side sleeper and 40% back sleeper. With what I know now, If I had to do it all over again, I'd buy a 3" topper. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way, so thats why I ordered 2".

Thanks. I say I am a stomach sleeper because I always fall asleep on my stomach, but I usally wake up on my back. I'm such a sound sleeper, I have no idea when I do that, so I don't know my percentages.

Well I'm Basing These percentages on how often I'm aware of what position I'm in, which would be before I fall asleep and when I wake up

Need2sleep, I'm in NJ. I wonder if they may have needed a shipment to come in before they could ship yours. That is a long time to wait.

LTFM, I am mostly a side sleeper, and occasionally a back sleeper. I move ALL night long, plus I'm a light sleeper, so I tend to wake myself when I'm changing positions. As for the 3" 20 ILD, it was comfy in all positions. My hubby is a back sleeper (which I think is similar to a back sleeper), and he prefers a firmer bed, he's 6'4" and 205 lbs. My side is too soft for him. Then again, he doesn't like the feeling of something surrounding him while he sleeps, it over heats him.

Thanks for that info.  That definitely keeps me pointed towards the 2" 20 ILD layer.
