Thinking of using a too firm mattress as a box spring
We bought a really firm mattress in March, that we've decided is too hard, even with a topper. We replaced it yesterday ~ I'm wondering if we'd be better off using that really firm mattress as a box spring instead of the box spring that came with the firm mattress. I called the store and the salesman told me it was a bad idea. |

I don't think a mattress has the structural support (wood or steel) that a box spring has. So, I think it would start sagging in the middle. I agree with the salesman that it is not a good idea. If you add enough inches of toppers you can make the mattress soft enough. You might need 2-3" of medium firmness latex and 1-3" of softer latex or memory foam on top of that. |

I concur that this is not a good idea - too likely to sag and not give you the support you want. |
