Well we took the plunge and ordered from Sleep Ez.com their model 10000 Dunlop in two Twin XL and two Reverie Deluxe Adjustable Beds With Wireless Control and Massage in Twin XL from Olejo Stores.com (great prices with lift gate shipping included). The mattresses are due to arrive by UPS this Friday and the adjustable beds next week sometime by freight. Why I went with the sleep Ez is essentially the good ratings, 90 return policy, decent pricing and Shawn who was helpful and patient. If it turns out we can't stand latex we can always return them and look at another route; or if one of us likes it and the other does not that can be remedied as well due to the Twin XL flexibility. I choose XFIRM/FIRM/MEDIUM and the wife choose FIRM/MEDIUM/SOFT in Dunlop. I'll let everyone know how it works out. Although i suspect having slept on memory foam for eight years I may end up adding a M.F. topper later. As for the adjustable beds, it does not take much time in one to realize just how much they can enhance in bed reading and TV activities. Thanks to everyone who assisted, especially Phoenix for all of the advise and coaching. I would have done more testing in stores but my wife made it clear she was not going to spend her holiday time off going to mattress stores and factories with me. Also, I need to get back to my real hobby which is furniture making; this holiday vacation i will be working on two night stands to add to the bedroom suite I have built so far. |
Good idea. This would allow me to try it several different ways to see what works best. |
Well I purchased 1" memory foam as suggested in a King size. Where I decided to purchase it from was a bit like Bungee Jumping with a rubber band. I was at the overstock site and saw the Venus 1" 8Lb foam for a silly low price $148 shipped (that's the same price for twin or King). Yes I read the Overstock site reviews and they range from "great" to "this is a rip off". So when it arrived the first thing I did was carry it in to the house (it seemed quite heavy). I did the calculations and from what I can tell it should weigh in the ballpark of 27+ lbs. Onto the scale I went with the roll of foam, the final weight was 27lbs plus or minus 1/2 lb. I opened it up to let it air, it sort of smells like fish at first but this dissipates. When I press my hand into the foam and do the infomercial thing the handprint recovery time is easily twice as slow as old 5.3 lb foam topper (now on my sons bed), so this appears to be the real deal. Going to try it tonight doubled up on top of the latex mattress and see if that is too much and need to drop to 1". If it turns out I only need 1" I'll end up with a killer foam cushion for my car made from the the extra. |
I have had very good luck with the 1 inch Sensus memory foam I got from Overstock. I was sleeping on 11 inches of latex from very firm to medium (24-28 ILD) on the top layer and I wanted just a bit more pressure relief. The thin layer of memory foam provides just a little extra softness and reduces the "push back" feeling of the latex without sacrificing proper support for my 235 lb frame. I'm so satisfied with the 1 inch that I never doubled it over to try 2 inches. Hope it works for you as well. |
